Cardiovascular exercise is anything that increases your heart rate. When you lift you increase your heart rate, therefore lifting weights counts as a form of cardiovascular exercise.

absolutely...cardio just lets you expell excess calories from your body.

if you want to be huge, as in a lot of muscle but still have an unattractive and not all that healthy of a body (like a lot of people on this site), then sure, eat tons of food and lift weights without ever going for a jog.

How does not doing cardio suddenly make you unattractive and unhealthy?

If you lift with little breaks, lots of high rep sets, its very easy to keep your heart rate up, and you are still burning just as many if not more calories. All without stepping on a treadmill.

But you must be right... a lot of people on this site must be unhealthy and not know what they are doing.

Good thing you factor in things like diet and the rest of their workout program. You can run for 40 minutes every day, have a shitty diet, and lift like a idiot, and you will be "owned" by someone that never runs, lifts right, and has a clean diet.

exactly...its like the retarted people who say "I can eat whatever I want cause I lift weights and ill get big." Mind you there are also the people who wear the 36-40 inch waist size in jeans and buy extra large clothes to hide there fat. Diet is where its at. If you like to cheat a bit more then the average person then cardio should be a staple.

I've been competing 1-3 times per year successfully for the past 7 years... of those 7 years i've done cardio for probably 3 contest preps.

Those that think no cardio=fat-ass have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

and FYI: the heart association lists doing housework and gardening among 'cardiovascular' activities.

To say that someone who isn't half-assing it in the gym isn't exercising their heart is ridiculous.

    Yes.. but it isn't 'fun'

Requires a lot of discipline and a strong mind.

Doing a lot of cardio allows one leeway.

i.e you get to eat above maintenance.

You get no such leeway with its absence.

    Trust me.

When people debate over one variable out of a huge formula, they are supposed to assume the rest of the formula remains constant. If you do everything right but no cardio, Im pretty sure you wouldnt look as good as someone who did everything right PLUS cardio.

And when I say attractiveness, I mean from a girls perspective. Unless she is big herself, most girls arent into the huge bulky type a guy. Sorry thats real broad...but I think you get the idea

Exactly....Now I do cardio 3 times a week but because I actually enjoy going for a run.... but I have also done the dieting down without cardio successfully.
