Good deal. Once you get use to it you'll never want to use anything else. But, you'll find that you have no choice but to use Windows for some programs. The good thing is that you can install Bootcamp from Apple and then run Windows XP Pro on your Apple. You'll need a copy of Windows XP Pro to do it though and to download Bootcamp from Apple. Then when you power up the computer you just pick Apple OS X or Windows XP Pro.
oh ok good deal! ya, I can't wait to use it!!
Its my fav thing i own... soon to be the 30" Cinema display hopefully

There is just so much quality in the mac and mine has a tiny camera on the top lip, not sure if that's how all macs come now.
Also, she didn't explain to me what the difference was between the pro and just the normal white or black macs. I just went for the best![]()
The Pro MacBooks have faster processors, better graphics cards, an expansion slot and more built in ports.Originally Posted by audis4

Do you guys like the glossy screens? I've only seen glossy screens on Sony and Dell laptops and I did not like them. I don't know if Apple's version looks different so I bought my 17" Macbook Pro without the glossy screen.

They had the non glossy and glossy side by side. It didn't really matter to me which one, the resolution looked great on both I just went for the glossy because she recommended it for class presentations etc.Originally Posted by Carlos_E

I do like how Apple now comes with Intel chips, and with the windows boot mode, I could still run most of my programs on it.
I got a glossy screen on mine due to the fact that it makes colors more vivid for presentations to clients. But the matte screen has accurate colors for editing... But i do all my color correction on a CRT monitor, accurate LCD's run for over 1300 for a 17in and they're not even that reliable, and i'm a broke college student. If i were to do it all over again, i'd go matte. Ive had alot of issues with just chillin outside and glare killing my view...Originally Posted by Carlos_E

apple tablet comes out the 9th... Its gonna be sick "Modbook"
Will any version of Windows XP work on the Intel Macs once Boot Camp is installed?
Also, for anyone who has been running Windows on their Macs, have you had any difficulties/differences vs. a standard PC? I need to be able to run Excel on my Mac as it runs on Windows.
I can't seem to copy web text into Excel for Mac?
Damn must be nice brother!

El Segundo, CA - Solution hardware manufacturer Axiotron, Inc. and technology solutions provider Other World Computing (OWC) today announced that they will be unveiling the ModBook™, the first ever Mac® tablet computer solution, on January 9th, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. After an invitation-only press showcase, the Axiotron ModBook will be unveiled to the general public at 2:30 PM at the Other World Computing Booth #S2218.
The ModBook is a high-end slate-style notebook computer solution, which was designed in California by Axiotron’s team of German and American engineers and will be available in the U.S. through an exclusive joint-venture arrangement between Axiotron and Other World Computing. Following a demonstration by Axiotron engineers and OWC product specialists, consumers will be able to experience hands-on trials of the Axiotron ModBook at the Other World Computing Macworld booth, #S2218.
The Axiotron ModBook features WACOM Penabled® hardware for true pen input and is fully compatible with Apple's Inkwell, a Mac OS X Tiger feature that provides system level handwriting and gesture recognition to all Mac applications. Drawing and writing directly on the screen provides for a uniquely intuitive user experience and its slim, slate-style form factor makes the ModBook the ultimate companion for mobile users, artists, professionals and students.
The ModBook is also the only portable Mac solution that features an optional built-in Global Positioning System (GPS). The Axiotron ModBook GPS Module was developed in cooperation with GlobalSat Technologies Corporation utilizing the industry leading SiRFstar™ III chipset for shorter first location fix times and improved tracking capabilities.
Designed by Axiotron, the ModBook will be available in the US exclusively through Other World Computing. Visit www.MacSales.com or call (800) 275-4576.
I have a feeling they're gutting a MacBook or MacMini logic board and putting it inside the tablet.

jeez! that modbook looks very cool from that pic. That's awesome you can write on it like a tablet. Does it give a price?
have to wait till Tuesday the 9th for a price.Originally Posted by audis4

yeah thats an awesome computer i have the older powerbook 15 inch and i love it.. have fun with it but if you use it for music programs it can become slightly troublesome
The tablet is going to be expensive. It could be based off of a flat panel iMac logic board. Apple doesn't license clones so that means they're buying a full system from Apple, gutting it, then building it into a tablet.Originally Posted by Carlos_E

Thanks for your response, Carlos.
I really am not too sure how to explain it. When I try to copy and paste a screen of values/heading/etc. from a webpage into excel (Office 2004 ed.) it will not paste properly.
Seems to work fine on my partners PC laptop so I was thinking I would just install Windows onto my mac and go from there.
As long as you have an Intel based back you're good to go.Originally Posted by TR'05

So, Modbook isn't made by apple... Wow, this is gonna be interesting. Wow im really speechless, i really wanna see how this plays out. I think it'll be a macmini logic board, so it'll have room for the cd drive, the iMac have thicker logic boards from photo's that i've seen. But, wow...thats crazy buy a mac, convert it and then resell it. I htink this is gonna be a first for Apple... right?
Carlos,
I've got the Intel so I'm set. One more quick question:
Is the installation of Windows onto the Mac a process which I can do on my own? I should note, I am not the handiest person with computers (part of the reason for using Macs).
Also, thanks very much for your help.
I've seen companies do this before. Thee was a company that offered high end video editing systems. They would take a Mac tower, gut it, put it into a new case and trick it out with high end video cards, extra drives and other accessories. They were $$$ very pricey.Originally Posted by Jakspro
Apple licensed clones back in the 90s thinking it would increase market share. It was a bad move. The clone makers were designing more powerful machines and selling them for less. Over all the Mac market share stayed the same and Apple's hardware sales took a dive so they canceled licensing. That is why you will not see Mac OS X running on any Intel machine besides an Intel Mac. When OS X for Intel was in beta you could install it on any standard PC. If Apple were to sell it for any PC their hardware sales would drop. You could go buy a cheap gateway and run OS X.Originally Posted by Jakspro
