    Misleading calories

Hi, I have a question regarding calories you read on the nutrition facts. Why does it tell you for example there are 130 calories in 16 wheat thins when you actually do the math and total up the carb/fat/protein calories and come up with a higher number?

this may be a silly question, but i'm still learning about macros and healthy foods to eat, so please bare with me..

    thanks for your help..

the whole 9 g per fat, 4 per carb and 4 per protein are estimates

A lot of food companies will do whatever possible to make their products seem healthier than they actually are. For example take a small bag of chips or something, there may be X amount of calories per serving but there is 2-3 servings per bag.

Similar to the first response you got. Calories arent exactly 4, 4, and 9. For example say there is capric/caprylic acid in the foods as fats (MCT's) then they will account for only 8.3cals per gram. Even all carbs or all proteins are not the EXACT same, you need a calorimeter to actually determine calories and this is done using specific heat capacities etc. Its not a perfect science we use for foods in everyday life. Dont worry too much about it.
