    protein bars.....?

Are these things worth a damn? I bought the detour bars but not sure how effective they are. When besides after a workout would be the best time to eat one? to replace a meal maybe or a bedtime snack? any ideas?

some of them are decent. metrx makes one with like 30+ grams of protien dont no how they taste though. for the amount you pay for a bar compared to a shake its a rip off in my opinion

I would rather have a nice shake after a work out…As for bars there good when your in a rush, keep one in your bag for those times when there's nothing around but junk food…they come in handy

They are crap..si the best time to take them would be never or as cheat meal... unless your in a complete bind for food.

cheat meal only IMO. The detour ones are possibly the worst they even have trans fats in them. Good rule of thumb is anything that tastes that good is not good for you.

What about making your own I've seen some pretty good recipes on here showing how to make them and the good thing is that you decide what goes in them.

making your own would be a fine idea. that way you can control exactly what is in there. However wether they will taste nice is another matter......

i wouldn't use them unless i was had a complete loss of food. prevent that from happening by always having something precooked. if you already bought them, eat em before bed i guess, only because i wouldn't eat them around a workout.
