    Shoulder Pain when benching ???

I have had this shoulder pain on and off on the right side for a few years. not sure what it is, but it hurts to do any kind of incline bench.

flat bench is not really a problem after a good warmup. decline is no problem.

any kind of incline hurts a lot, and the only kind of incline which hurts less is the hammer strength machine. i have attached a picture of where the pain is occuring. its at the point where the upper arm attaches to the shoulder.

i have no problem doing shoulder workouts. only when doing any incline benching. very frustrating. i will be seeing a physio/massage this weekend, but wanted to get your input on what it might be, and what could be done.

i do stretch, take advil before and after workout, and put on some sports balm. but i don't ice that much, maybe i could start doing that more.

It may be AC tendinitis. I was diagnosed with it about 2 months ago. The best thing is rest. No heavy pressing for some time and try not to sleep on that side. My doctor also gave me a small injection of Kenalog in the joint. I hope this helps.

Flat straight bb bench kills me too. I just take it light with dumbells and shoot for higher reps.

stay away from incline, use dumbells if you need to incline, important thing is that u can still do flat press and shoulder presses

have the same pain in shoulder(s), went from left side to both, happens during flat bench and military press. Happened about 2-3 months ago after heavy bench. I have been living with it, trying to stretch and using the machines rather than flat bench. I know I made great progress while benching and cant stand that I am limited to how much weight I can use. Does any one know what "rehab" shoulder exercises work and what did I do to my shoulder(joints, rotator cuff, etc.)...

Ive had the same shoulder pain only when bb bench for the past 4 months. Ive finally decided to take a week off. Hard to take off feel guilty about but don't want to make it worse, even though I'm finally making progress in press and this happens.

rotator cuff injury. very common injury. thoroughly stretch shoulder b4 lifting and go light for 2-3 weeks to restrengthen.

Inclines can put a ton of stress on the shoulders, I can't even bring the bar all the way down to my chest doing inclines anymore and I think that adds to the stress on them. I keep the weight much lower than doing flat bench and that helps me avoid injury. Drop the weight for a while and let whatever is hurt heal.

Try doing a low incline press with lower weight or avoid inclines until the pain subsides. If you're prone to rotator cuff injuries you should do exercises to strengthen it. Laying on your side with arm bent 45 degrees and humorus kept close to your rib cage, using a light weight raise it up and down slowly.

Are you doing proper warm ups? You should get a good amount of blood flowing before you start your workouts. Also, that deltoid muscle could just be weak. Try to do some individuals deltoid workouts and see if it helps.

dont ever do incline flyes. one sure way to destroy your shoulders, also dont pull down wieght behind your head with any exercize. bad bad bad. go light or use dumbells

Could be a "Slap Tear"...Im just coming off of one. Took me a year to fully bounce back.

***ending on your age (if you are older)... it COULD be your Rotator. But im willing to bet it's a slap.

Get an MRI done ASAP. Dont go making it worse, because you will just be prolonging the rehab you need.

The reason it hurts less as you get warmed up...is because it is becoming inflammed, and it's sort of numbing itself.

Make no mistake about it...even though you dont feel it... you are still ****ing it up even worse by Pressing (if it is a Slap tear). Just get the MRI bor... you will know for sure.

I had to completely drop the bench from shoulder problems. Dumbells work for me as long as I keep them close in and not wide. No flys for sure.
If you have one of these more serious injuries as stated above then to continue without getting an MRI would make it much worse.

I had the same problem. The only thing that fixed it was laying off the bench for 6 weeks.
