    coffee

You guys that drink coffee, how many times a day do you drink it?
Why did you start to drink coffee when you drank it the first time?
I think I started drinking coffee when I was 17-18 years old so I would be less tired. I drink coffee 1 - 2 times a day and 3 - 4 times if I have slept little.

How does this pertain to? This might belong in the AR Lounge IMO.

But to answer your question, I used to be a starbucks fiend, but I had to cut myself off. I think coffee is 50% caffeine and 50% placebo.

Well... Coffee is considered a direutic, a drug and a food... Beans are food.

I couldn't agree with you more... when I quit, it was a headache for about one day... then i was fine after that.

to answer the question, I stoped drinking coffee when I was introduced to green tea. It has less caffiene, but when I double it up to two bags per cup, i get a nice jolt of energy and mental awareness, but that's just me.... some don't see it.

I drink about 3-4 cups a day, iced coffee with fat free creamer, every morning.. I factored it into my diet (macros -- since there are carbs in the creamer) but I've been doing that since I started my diet about 2 weeks ago and have lost almost 10 lbs..I think coffee's fine..

That is a lot of coffee IMO. I thought that 4 cups was much. I don´t think that you should quit drinking it because as you say it´s working for you and you get no side effects. Do you drink coffee the whole year or just before a contest? I drink black coffee or cappuccino with no sweeteners.

I manage a coffee shop but ironically only drink about one cup every other day.

shout out to custom roasting out of Nebraska, they make a great columbian peaberry, smooth smooth taste not burnt at all.

also recent studies show coffee is no more a diruretic than drinking water.

Usually around contest time is when it's the highest....right now I have a huge mug with breakfast and two or three small cups during the day

I switched over to green tea... not as potent but I'm also taking an ECA stack so i guess that's in my favor. Usually though... I'd drink a rather large cup pre-morning cardio, one mid day and another pre WO.

Found this study interesting, I have used caffeine before workouts many times (coffee, nodoz, red bull, ect). I have read plenty of studies that prove caffeine is not harmful in moderate doses, and does in fact increase energy/awarenes/mental cognition by increasing dopamine in the brain. I was surprised however by the results in this study:

Physiological and cognitive responses to caffeine during repeated, high-intensity exercise.

    Crowe MJ,
    Leicht AS,
    Spinks WL.
Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, James Cook University, Townsville, Queensland 4811, Australia.
This study investigated the effects of caffeine on repeated, anaerobic exercise using a double-blind, randomized, crossover design. Seventeen subjects (five female) underwent cognitive (reaction time, number recall) and blood (glucose, potassium, catecholamines, lactate) testing before and after consuming caffeine (6 mg/kg), placebo, or nothing (control). An exercise test (two 60 s maximal cycling bouts) was conducted 90 min after caffeine/placebo consumption. Plasma caffeine concentrations significantly increased after caffeine ingestion, however, there were no positive effects on cognitive or blood parameters except a significant decrease in plasma potassium concentrations at rest. Potentially negative effects of caffeine included significantly higher blood lactate compared to control and significantly slower time to peak power in exercise bout 2 compared to control and placebo. Caffeine had no significant effect on peak power, work output, RPE, or peak heart rate. In conclusion, caffeine had no ergogenic effect on repeated, maximal cycling bouts and may be detrimental to anaerobic performance.
PMID: 17240784 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

btw, I used to consume about 2 cups a day. Recently I hardly consume any and might have a cup of black tea here and there. Working night shift for hte military is what caused me to begin drinking it.
