Thread: Cant do squats, cannot reach the bar.

  1. #1

Cant do squats, cannot reach the bar.

Its comming to the point where its extremely difficult for me to do squats. I cannot reach far enough behind me to hold on the bar properly.

What can I do to "loosen" up. I feel tension right where my front deltoid meets my pec, I feel its tight right there when I put my arms back. A personal trainer once told me its because of my lats....

What can I do to fix this?

    thanks

hey all I know this is a pretty old post, but I was searching around and saw it and was wondering what can be done about it. I have the same problem. No injuries that i know about and it has been like this for a few years now.

I am haing a similar problem due to running gear and holding water at the moment I have limited range of movement with arms.

i always have a lot of tension in my shoulders when squatting, what about just grabbing the bar as far out as possible (ex. once you lift off the racks slide ur hands out as far as necessary)

After an injury I had I have found this to be the only way to do squats comfortably. That is grabbing the bar as wide as necessary. As my flexability improved I was able to work my hands in closer.

i try that but there is just so much tension still on my front delts and into my chest that it just hurts so freakin much. I try to stretch em out every workout for a few minutes by just standing there with the bar on my back with my arms back for a while and that helps a bit.

Not a bad idea but I don't think it sounds to safe. Granted I haven't even picked one of these up at the gym in a while, but from what I recall I don't think the logistics of it will work.

I use buffalo bars to train for PL meets because it changes the characteristics of the load, it's very safe, well safe up to 500+ lbs or so anyways.
