    Why do some people do cable internal/external rotations this way?

    What's up fellas? I was just wondering what is the benefit of doing cable internal/external rotations with a towel place under your arm pit? Like you can see here:

    What is the difference between doing it with or without a towel roll?

    And is there a place online I can order a pre made towel roll that was made for this purpose. Perhaps maybe from a physical therapy website? Does anyone know any good online physical therapy stores that would sell one of these?

    I am assuming for isolation purposes. Why buy a towel when you can buy one at wall mart

    If it is the excercises I am thinking of, I have done them many many times in physical therapy for shoulder junk. It strengthens the stabilizing muscles in the rotator cuff of the shoulder, and to a very minor extent, the delts, but not enough in the delts to be of any benefit. I forget all the names of the 4 muscles around the rotator cuff, but you get the idea.

    EDIT: I just finished reading the rest of the thread and I am sorry but I did laught outloud to myself a little... there are no pre made towels, they are all usually home made. just get a towel, and fold it in half and roll it up. Really though if you are having instability in your shoulder, you should probably start off with no towel with your elbow at your side and after a few weeks, adding a small towel and adding a little more girth to the towel every couple of weeks as the excercises getting easier. The only difference between a towel and no towel, is different points of your ROM.

    I should have been more clear. What I meant was, is there any special type of pad or specially made towel that is a certain 'bulk' that they sell on any online PT stores for this exact purpose. I'm aware of how to simply roll up a towell. I don't know...maybe I'm just making this more complicated than it is.

    yeah no biggie, just roll up a towel when you want to do those excercises. if you havent had any major shoulder problems, then get a small sized towel folded in half and rolled up where it is roughly 3-4 inches in diameter and place it just slightly above your elbow at your side and you will be all set. Also I have noticed at golds gym there are neck pads for squating, those work well also if you dont want to have to go get a towel from somewhere during your wkout. Also instead of pulleys and weights, I usually use the theraband stuff with a really high resistance and it works wonders for me since I have had alot of shoulder issues in the past.
