Yet another shoulder physical therapy question

I am currently in physical therapy right now due to some shoulder problems. My PT has me doing front dumbbell raises with my thumbs pointing up. What is the difference between doing them this way and the regular way (thumbs pointing in)?

Anyone ever use this kind of bar (with the wider grip) when doing this exercise?

If so, what kind of results did you get?

I do the shoulder lifts with my thumbs up my chiro/phsio intorduced me to those last year and said they were more correct and natural movement.
After i finished physical therapy and started to do the exercise for actual strength training i noticed that my punching power was up in boxing and the movement was better, it could have been this move specifically or it could have been the other 3-4 exercises he gave me for shoulders i dont know!
