Thread: Can't go skydiving cuz..

  1. #1

    Can't go skydiving cuz..

    Im too fat

My R.A. is gettin a group together to go and askin me to go and then the instructor of it told him there was a weight limit and it was 250.

He then asked me earlier today how much I weighed and I said bout 260. Said.."well ur gonna have to drop 10lbs or you can't go fatty"

    Sadness

Its the one where you are strapped to the instructor. I guess me being fat puts too much stress on the straps (or whatever is used) that connect us? Not sure.

So what kinna shit is that?

Everyone's gotta go strapped to an instructor. Majority of the time, they will make exceptions... 10 pounds won't matter... 50lbs would

lol see thats what I thought..10lbs wont matter.

I also thought...should "oh thats too small of a number to matter" hold true in something that is extremely dangerous? Lol..dont think so. Im over the weight limit for water slides at water parks...thats sumthin that I dont really worry bout..but skydiving..scares me

Actually a lot of the time you do solo your first time. They have you hooked up to a cable inside the plane that pulls the schute for you. The reason they do the tandoms is so that you can experience the free fall but don't have to worry about forgetting to pull the chord

Ahhh, c'mon chest. Turn that frown upside down!

My wife and I want to re-extend our invitation to you for a trip to the lake with us this Spring/Summer. Luckily we have no weight limit on our boat!

Thats what i was sayin. Good thing theres a guy with me cuz knowing me I'd forget where the spot to pull to chord was. I'd press a button that made my chute backpack thing fly off

Oh wait! I checked the owners manual and it did say something about not allowing those over 15% on board. The limit is 10%.

    Sorry man. Maybe next year!

I'm actually having to work harder these days to remain lean now that I'm getting older. I'm now a firm believer in that the older that you get, the wiser AND fatter that you become as well!

Why chance your life ? If they said you cant be over 250lbs i wouldnt go till i was 200lbs. If you are 250lbs and are dropping at 120-140mph (faster with the instructor attached)you are falling pretty damn fast. You do the calculation and find the force of you two.
    F = M kg * A(gravity)m/s^2

Anyway , lets just say its not pretty when you hit the ground at your combined weight and acceleration.

but the force of gravity on any 2 objects is the same

Aerodynamics may be diff but thats it I thought

But yeah...no way i'd go unless i was like 220...

and you'd get a bigger bounce

the straps are rated for a specific amount of weight...

that's probably the restriction they are refering to, or their insurance requirments..

I'm a skydiver. At my DZ (dropzone), the tandom instructors wont take anyone over 220lbs. You dont have to do a tandom your first jump but most folks do. Some do static line jumps and others proceed through AFF with an instructor jumping solo with two instructors to watch you. I have put on 30lbs since buying my own rig/parachute last summer, so the main parachute is going to be a bit small, but that just means I'll go faster I guess.

Good thing then, I wouldnt even be allowed if i went anyway...

Guess I'd have to jump solo.

So why the weight limit? Know the specifics??

fack my LBM is over 220..thatll never happen.

I guess skydiving isn't for me unless I can get Haro to take me on my own and risk forgetting where the pull shoot latch thingy is
