    got denied for accutane today

my little b**** a** derm prescribed me this doxy pills and these damn wipes that dont do s***. she told me to use benzol peroxide and i have been going through a tube a day, it is way to expensive. so today i met with her again and straight up asked for accutane and got denied. she said she knew my acne was caused by steroids(maybe its cause my face is clear but back, chest, shoulders, look like a pizza. and i have horrible strech marks under my armpits) and said she would not feel comfortable giving it to me then decided to lecture me for 20 mins about the bad effects of steroids. i was thinking about going to another one on monday and asking again, but it is 40 dollars every time i make an appointment. i know i can get it online but i would like for my bloodwork to be done every month to make sure its not f'in up my liver. this was my first cycle and I am on my last week of pct but plan on doing futher cycles. should i not even waste my time asking right now? will my acne clear up soon? please HELP, any suggestions?

Oh man, dude, don't even waste another second with a Doc. You probably have 100 derms in your area. Just go to another one. Don't just sit back. Someone else will give it to you.

some derms wont prescribe it at all. I would ask if they do prescribe it when you call for an appointment.

So very true Gixxer. My first Derm said that he never prescribes it for anyone. The second one I went to claims that it's a cure and hands it out to anyone that asks for it. He only asks that they complete monthly BW and that's it.

That's exactly what mine does too. 99% will require monthly blood work......at least if they're responsible.

Will accutane refine the size of your pores also, or does it just prevent breakouts?

There are online pharmacies that prescribe the stuff and will ship it to you. If you need a source for some tetracycline, let me know.

if you're going through a tube a day that's way too much and you are probably making it worse. I used to have really bad acne, I mean really bad! Turns out I was washing my face too often with soap. I started just rinsing with water only except in the morning and at night just to get excess oil off. Your body needs a natural balance of oil, so when you use soap too often it actually gives you more pimples. I started tanning at least 3 times a week and the acne started to dissapear. Also, there is this amazing product called Boo Boo Zap... it works like magic check it out. Also drink LOTS of water!

I think accutaine is not necessary, it has been known to cause severe depression in some people (including myself). I think drugs are NOT the way to go

Try tanning... helps a lot for me. I also put 91% alcohol swab on my chest and back twice a day, dries that shiott right off. I had severe joint problems with accutane had to get off because I couldn't lift.

If I was your doc, I wouldn't prescribe it either. Stop trying to self-diagnose yourself and listen to the person that spent 8+ years studying skin. They're not just going to give you accutane because you ask for it. Granted I think your doc was out of line to bring up steroids without you mentioning it, doxycycline is a good first choice. You have to take it for almost a month in most cases for it to start working fully. Sounds like you're going overboard on the peroxide treatment. Just get a good acne wash (10% benzoyl perox.), use the peroxide 1-2 times/day, and take the doxy for a while to give it a chance to work. Accutane isn't a miracle drug.

Not sure... it was in a big blister pack, I think it was generic. But it sucked real bad. I got depressed, and my joints started hurting.

For facial acne, I've been following a routine at www.acne.org and it works really good. You have to follow it 100% though, and make sure you do all the steps exactly as he says. I bought the Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% gel for my face and i put a ton of that on morning and night, it's made a big difference. My face hasn't been this clear since I was 16 (I'm 22 now) Tanning twice a week helps a lot too... you don't have to go as long as someone trying to really get dark, like 10-15 mins is fine cuz all you're trying to do is kill bacteria on the skin with UV light and also dry it out a bit.

For shoulders, I use a cosmetic pad and put 91% alcohol on my chest/shoulders twice a day, it takes about a minute to dry and then I put my shirt on. Works great. The tanning helps a lot too.

Also - Accutane can do a lot of damage to your liver, especially if you're running a cycle. It might seem like a great idea but try what I've said above first. The rubbing alcohol works really good. I used to have a bunch of zits on my chest/shoulders and as you can see from my pic its a lot better now.

One of the things people forget is that the hormonal imbalance and resulting deficiency in the immune system is what causes frequent infections on the skin. Unless you're some sort of hypochondriac who's continually washing their face/hands, you'll never be clean enough to prevent all infections.

A good anti-biotic such as tetracycline or doxycycline is what's needed to give your immune system the boost it needs to fight infection. The same thing is true of "test flu" that most people experience and both have similar causes.

yea i have already been taking doryx for about 7 months because i had a little body acne from taking pro hormones a while back and the reason i was on them stilll is because they didn't work. then when i took my cycle my acne went crazy, but i was still on the doryx throughout the whole cycle. so i went to see a different derm when i got off cycle and she gave me the doryx again! as well as benzol pads and sa pads

i have ordered liquid isotretinoin(accutane) offline and have taken it for a few days. i am only taking 40mg a day. i am going to a different derm tomorrow and am going to try one more time to get it legally so i can get my bloodwork covered by my insurance. i have researched this drug for many months and i realize it is very serious and what side effects to lookout for. i am aware most people get dry skin, achy joints, and so on and about 1 percent of people experience depression on it. however, my acne is very depressing right now and has been for some time so i believe the possible benefits are worth the risk and if the sides get too bad i will stop. keep in mind i have been trying to get rid of this acne for quite some time(7 months) and have tried every otc, or home remedy available with very little improvement, i am not jumping straight to the isotretinoin, this has become my last resort.

Doryx is just time-release doxycycline...but since doxycycline isn't dosed frequently ayway it seems like a waste of money to me. If that's not working for you, the dermatologist might want to try you on a different antibiotic before they'll try the accutane. It really just depends on how severe the acne is (to the derm, not to you...I know even mild acne can be a total downer!), and whether it's surface acne or cystic acne. I'd definitely see a different dermatologist and do NOT recommend self-medicating with it. I'm sure if you look around and call ahead of time to be sure that they even prescribe it at all, you'll be able to get it from someone who can put you on a correct dose and make sure you're being monitored.

well i hope i get it tomorrow. i have tried, acv, h&s, nizoral,sa,bp,tanning, anti biotic, everything....... and as far as how severe it is i have never seen anything this bad in my life, literally hundreds and tons of cystic acne all over. when i showed my last derm she said "wow" when she saw it. the only person i have been without a shirt on within the past six months was my derm and my gf(of 5 years). it sucks not being able to show off all this hard work, and not to mention summer is around the corner. i know accutane is the most "permanent" solution there is and it works wonders

i know it will get worse before it gets better but i dont care. i would rather "sit out" this summer and have clear skin for next then keep battling with this year after year. not to mention the hundreds of scars i have will take months to go away whenever i do get rid of the acne

there is a much cheaper way to get acutaine, obtain some in liquid form from research companies idk if arr as any but look its out there and a lot cheaper

I can get that shit for like a buck a G..............won't do it though as the negatives seem to outway the positives. I'd rather have acne then potentially contemplating hanging myself from my back deck.

I wasted 2 damn years of taking crappy ass antibiotics and creams that did absolutely NOTHING. 5 years ago me and my mom got fed up with my current derm at the time cause he wouldn't prescribe me accutane and kept giving me creams and antibiotics that didn't work at all, so we went to a new derm and after finding out that 2 years of drugs didn't do jack she prescribed me accutane right away with monthly blood work and I have to SUPER ULTRA disagree with the statement that its not a miracle drug because it is a miracle drug. I have been acne free for 6 years now and even when I'm on cycle I basically get nothing. I only had to deal with 2 side effects, dry skin and dry lips and it was well worth the minor discomfort.

I agree.I have struggled with acne all my life and accutane is great.I was getting a little negative sides from it so my doc told me to take it 3 times a week instead of 7.I get no sides and clear skin.My friend uses it on cycle and loves it.

i have been on a month and a half and all i can say is DAMN. this is the sh**. i am on cycle right now and have not one pimple, all i have is red marks left from before, and they are slowly fading. i am taking liv-52 and cranberry pills and all my bw has turned out fine. as far as sides just have extremely chapped lips and dry skin on my arms, other than that nothing! the only reason i think derms dont like prescribing it because it is the cure for acne, no acne, no business. IT IS AWESOME

your old dermatologist is just being a conservative asshole and i would drop her asap. you shouldn't have to suffer just because she's old school. i believe that i took 40mgs for a couple of months. when i was on accutane, i did an m1t cycle and drank every weekend. also, the blood work results were nothing out of the norm for someone on accutane. as for side effects, i have a history of ***ression and my mood wasn't affected nor did i get any joint pain. dry lips was the biggest pain in the ass but i found that putting a generous amount of Aquaphor (like petroleum jelly) on my lips before bed left them moist all day. my only regret is not starting it earlier! when my child gets acne during puberty, i will save him/her the mental anguish and get accutane prescribed from the get go.

Accutane is NOT the first option for acne, there is others options tha can work wery well. Not many Drs prescribe accutain cuz now is a pain in the ass for Drs and patients to do.Now is an accutane progran call "I PLEGE".
Go on line and see iplege.com and see the bunch of crap that you have to do so you can get prescripion on accutane not to mention if you are female.
If you are using Banzoyl peroxide wash one tube a day you are wasting your time and money. Here is what i like to do...

    1) Benzoyl peroxide wash every day.Shower with your regular soap (i like sport soap cut better the oil) then wash with the peroxide in affected areas and let it sit for a few then rinse.
    2) Topical antibiotic. Can be Duac topical gel,1%clindamicyn and 5% peroxide, or Evoclin foam or Retin-A gel microsphere.04%.Apply at night after shower.
    3) Oral antibiotic.Doxyciclin 100mg/day at night with food.Carefull it make sencitive to sun light, that is why you take at night.

    Tanning...WROING..,dont do it.
Change towells and bead sheets often.
    Shower after work out.
Dont squizz the withe heads, make more and permanet scars.

...and the most important...be PATIENT is going to take time control acne.

See my avy ?...yes acne is in my chest and back,is not that i dont care but im patient,im going to be fine after my cycle...lol

Actually from everything I've read most believe Accutane to be an absolute miracle drug. Curing people of the worst and most damaging acne so that they can lead normal lives, no other acne treatment even comes close to Accutane in terms of efficiency and long term remission.

Who in their right mind wants to take antibiotics the rest of their life. Certainly not me.

And believe me just because she is a dermatologist doesn't mean she is right. Derms across the country are scared to prescribe this to their patients because of the "negative" side effects, mainly ***ression which isn't even statistically supported. Many many self-diagnose for these very reasons....and a couple more which would be a whole separate thread.
