They're not just going to give you accutane because you ask for it. Granted I think your doc was out of line to bring up steroids without you mentioning it, doxycycline is a good first choice. You have to take it for almost a month in most cases for it to start working fully. Sounds like you're going overboard on the peroxide treatment. Just get a good acne wash (10% benzoyl perox.), use the peroxide 1-2 times/day, and take the doxy for a while to give it a chance to work. Accutane isn't a miracle drug.
Actually from everything I've read most believe Accutane to be an absolute miracle drug. Curing people of the worst and most damaging acne so that they can lead normal lives, no other acne treatment even comes close to Accutane in terms of efficiency and long term remission.
Who in their right mind wants to take antibiotics the rest of their life. Certainly not me.
And believe me just because she is a dermatologist doesn't mean she is right. Derms across the country are scared to prescribe this to their patients because of the "negative" side effects, mainly ***ression which isn't even statistically supported. Many many self-diagnose for these very reasons....and a couple more which would be a whole separate thread.
