not a civil rights issue. it should get thrown out. school is not a democracy and can do things like this to stop a riot from ensuing.
School is allowed to have a dress code... I don't see a problem.
BUT
On the other hand, if the school allows pro-anything t-shirts, they they also have to allow anti-anything of the same subject.
Of course if anyone wears a stupid pro or anti something shirt (like pro-nazi or anti-"insert race gere"), then they will have to live with the consequences and can't come crying when they get their arse kicked.
Red
They should be allowed to wear whatever they want, and (like stated above) face the consequence of the same.
You can't only allow "pro-WHATEVER" stuff and then stifle dissenters. It just isn't right.
The article did not say they were allowing pro gay T-shirts and not allowing antigay shirts. I'm not sure where you got that.Originally Posted by Act of God

Schools are supposed to foster safe learning environments for kids. If they felt the T-shirt would cause trouble with the students I can understand why they didn't want her to wear it.

Easy answer
School Uniforms.
Sorry, I wasn't being clear. I was just agreeing with the post above mine. I just think if there is a case where you allow one side to proclaim their position (whether it be a pro-gay day in school, or whatever) you have to allow the other as well.Originally Posted by Carlos_E
I don't care either way about the issue, I'm just hypothesizing about the fairness of it all.
