    Healthy Chicken Fingers

My wife just made these for our post workout and they're DAMN good. Not sure about how healthy they really are though...

    1 Cup Oat Flour - 12g Pro, 48g Carb (9g Fiber, 0g Sugar), and 6g Fat
    4 Tbspn Oil (50% Canola + 50% Olive)
8oz Chicken Breasts cut into small pieces.

Just mix the batter (oat flour, water, and spices of your choice), then dip and roll the chicken breasts in the batter and fry them up!

They are REALLY good I just hope they're as healthy as they look on paper. lol

i know youre using 50% olive oil, but they are still fried, def would be healthy if they were baked instead of fried

True true... maybe not for every day, but I don't even think I would count these as a "cheat" meal...

BTW, the total macros come out to:

~50-60g Protein, 48g Carbs, ~15g Fat (remember that most of the oil remains in the pan when you are done....)

Anyone ever tried cooking in Flax Oil?? Is it even possible?
I also have Smart Balance Light Spread (Mostly Flax and EFAs but tastes like real butter kindof...) I may be able to use that.

Thats similar to what Im gonna start doing everyday here:

chicken breast cutlets, mixed with egg whites, and coat them with grinded oats. Use a little flaxoil if needed....throw on the stove and bam...

    no cheat meal....good protein, carbs.....its a good pro/carb meal.

quick question...what do u use to grind up the oats?

Actually found pre-ground oat flour at the store. The nutrition facts are essentially the same as raw oats, so I figured it saves me time.

do not cook in flaxseed oil.
    dont even try it.
flaxseed is not ment to be cooked and if its cooked it could be dangerous.
i dont know the real facts of my head but i know its not good.
its ment to stay cold pressed. thats why it sits in the fridge .

Even though this isn't "healthy" it's still a better way to get your chicken finger fix than frying them. Heres what I do: slice up chicken breast into whatever size you prefer, salt and pepper the chicken, beat a couple egg yolks, dip the chicken in the egg yolks and shake them in a bag of crushed corn flakes. Bake at 450f for 15-25 minutes ***ending on how big the pieces you made and how crunchy you like it. DELICIOUS!

yeah, flax looses all its properties after it reaches over 180 degrees, the canola/olive is your best bet, cause olive oil burns to easily.

throw in a little cayenne pepper spice to that oat flour, its a tasty 1/2 cheat 1/2 good meal..

especially when dipped in a little brown mustard, mmmmm.

How exactly is this a cheat meal?

Its chicken breast, whole wheat flour, egg whites, and canola oil, which most remains left behind when "frying" them up on the stove.

Maybe Im missing something, but where exactly does this meal become a cheat?

If you want to be healthy you should BAKE them, I make them sometimes and they are damn good.

doesn't sound too healthy... the word Fry scares me and i tend to run in the opposite direction! Baked sounds a little better... too bad you can't George Forman Grill those suckers!

    Yes, bake does sound better.

But when people hear the word fry, you tend to think badly and of Burger King or something, which use really poor, nasty quailty stuff, i.e. bars of lard to use as their grease, and crap batter, lol I use to work there.

But even if you fry on the stove, which isn't even deep fried. They are all good, healthy ingrediants (chicken breast, egg white, whole wheat flour, sunflower oil) Im just not seeing how that becomes a bad or cheat meal.

Does lightly frying something, in sunflower oil, turn it bad somehow???

no, but do it enough times and it doesn't necessarilly become healthy or something that i would want in my body EVERYDAY. I'm just anal about what goes into my mouth, and the older you get too, the closer and stricter you ahve to get on what you can and can't eat, and to me, oils of ANY kind apart from Flax are a "No No"... that's just me though... do whatever works! Good luck, keep us updated on if they yield any healthy or visible results as your PWO
