    Back Injury

Well, my motto of "Go heavy or go home" didn't serve me so well today. It was back day and after warming up a bit, I started of my workout with rack pulls (partial deads). Warm-up sets with 135 and 225. Hit 315 for 12 reps. Pulled 405 for 6 reps. Loaded up the bar with 455, tightened down my belt, tightened up my wraps and gave a good tug. . . Instead of impressing those around me with my feats of strength, I felt a pop or twinge on the right hand side of my lower back.

That abruptly ended my back session and now my back is a bit tender, and hurts when I move certain ways. I think its probably justs a strain but I guess I'll wait a couple of days and see if it gets better. I'm iceing it now. Hopefully it isn't a slipped disk.

For reference, I attached a medical-ish diagram showing where the pain is.

it is a sparain strain res tice and motrin, no big deal , it happens, also, if you are doing rack pulls no more than 5- 8 reps. sets of 12's in the deadlift are asking for trouble, trust me. myself, i wouldnt pull more than 5 reps in any deadlift movement except for stiff leg deads.

Thanks for the info doc. Yeah, just a strain. I iced it the night of the injury and the day after. Its loosening up a little and I may do some light arms tomorrow. I've been taking ibuproferin (sp) at 800mg three times daily. I'll have to stay light on legs/back for a little while I guess.

I normally dont pull for more than 6 reps myself. This was my first day doing rack pulls and 315 felt really light so I repped out 12. I'll keep the reps lower from here on out though.
