I was told by my trainer and some members here that doing more than 45min cardio 4x a week is counterproductive. So I was wondering if boxing or jump roping could be done on the other days to speed up weight loss

Those would be classified as cardio as well....
It would seem to me that the advice above is applicable in a limited context, i.e. training natty w/out gear...and it is good advice too, but I thought I should give a more complete picture
IMHO, you CAN do more cardio days ***ending on the situation, like while you cut on gear.. I did 'em every morning for the last 4 wks of my last cutting cycle.. The reason you shouldn't do it all the time is because 1. your body can become acclimated towards it and it will lose its effectiveness..and 2. If you are not on gear or eating enough, you can burn away your muscle....I never do cardio unless I am cutting and it works wonders when I do..but hey, that's just me...some people do it 3x a week regardless just to keep lean, and if it works for them, that's great!
^^ I agree,
you've invested $ in this person, and they should know you better than the avg person, and even yourself.
do what they say, if they dont provide you with the results you want seek a diff trainer.
your setting yourself and the rep of the trainer by doing diff than what they prescribe.

Training w/ or without gear in the manner described is fine. If you're trying to lose weight, it should actually be increased to 5-6 days a week. Just be sure to watch duration, but 45mins is quite acceptable, and as alluded to above gear makes this a mere drop in the bucket...you could do cardio virtually all day everyday on cycle w/o catabolic concerns.
Again as mentioned by Insane, 3 days a week is only sustenance, everyone on the planet should be doing this.
Remember, trainer knowledge and competency vary greatly, and this one is either at the lower range of the spectrum, or simply unclear about your goals.
