Shrugs - neck crack - PAIN

I was getting started doing barbell shrugs today. My first warmup set was 225. I started my first real set at 275 and about 6 reps into it I heard a "crack" from my neck. I think it was like a knuckle/neck crack, rather than something breaking...but wtf do I know? nothing.

I almost drop the weight because I get lightheaded and I am in a lot of pain. It's 20 minutes later and I am in a good deal of pain. I just took some skelaxin and IB with hopes that it will subside. I can move my neck in all directions, but it is TIGHT as hell and the pain is constant. There is about 1 position I can hold my neck in where the pain is not too bad.

    Any ideas?

lol...i'm not lau***ng at you dude, i just know how you feel, i'm just getting over doing the same thing. it's been two weeks and it is only about 90% now

the night i did it i had my girl give me a deep tissue massage and that only made it worse, i couldn't move at all the next day, so i don't reccomend that.

i just iced the shit out of it and overdosed on IB to help with inflamation. not much you can do bro, just give it time, good luck

i have heard neck injuries a few times from shrugs and on 2 occasions the gentlemen lost motor funtion for several months in the left side. i no longer go to failure with shrugs now. I just add a set or two to cmpensate for the lost intensity on that excerise. I think the musles spasm and cause thediscs iin the neck to move out off alighnment, and pinch/damage the nerve
    BE CAREFUL ON SHRUGS.
    Peace.
