I guess the real news is that nobody seems to be up in arms about two lesbians being called the kid's parents.

Maybe the right-wingers are keeping quiet on this situation because they don't want to criticize their own guy, I dunno. But I'm pretty sure that if that photo was of Bill and Hillary Clinton holding their lesbian daughter & her partner's kid, they would be getting a lot of heat . . .

Nevertheless, I'm happy that this time, it's the Republicans who are blazing a trail for progress . . .

His policy indicates that he already has. No good parent would support active/open discrimination against their own child. But he does!

Well, the conservatives have been bellyaching for years
1) sex outside marriage is a sin. Dick Cheney's daughter ain't married, but she's had sex outside marriage, is still doing it, and it's with a lesbian.
2) books like "Heather Has Two Mommies" is sinful, and now Dick Cheney's daughter is living that sinful story for all to see.
3) lesbian sex is shameful, and those who engage in it should be denounced. But who's been denouncing Dick Cheney's daughter lately? I ain't heard anyone. What's Rush Limbaugh said about her? Not much, and I wonder why. If This was Chelsea Clinton living in a lesbian affair with a baby, I'll bet he'd have lots and lots of unpleasant things to say.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the silence afforded to Mary Cheney and her family. I'm pleasantly surprised that no one has opposed the Vice President naming his daughter and her partner as the baby's "parents," and doing so publicly. Of course, there's not been any brass band announcing the birth of the new baby, as there might have been had it been born into more heterosexual surroundings, but given the state of things nowadays, I'd say overall, we're making progress.

And I'm pleased.
