    Cajun Town Bans Saggy Pants

    Cajun Town Bans Saggy Pants
    06/13/07
DELCAMBRE, La. (AP) - Sag your britches somewhere else, this Cajun-country town has decided.
Mayor Carol Broussard said he would sign an ordinance the town council approved this week setting penalties of up to six months in jail and a $500 fine for being caught in pants that show undergarments or certain parts of the body.

Broussard said he has nothing against saggy pants but thinks people who wear them should use discretion. "It's gotten way out of hand out here," he said.

Albert Roy, the councilman who introduced the ordinance, said he thought the fine was a little steep and should be more in the $25 range, but he still favored the measure.

"I don't know if it will do any good, but it won't hurt," Roy said. "It's obvious, and anybody with common sense can see your parts when you wear sagging pants."

Broussard's advice for people who like their pants to hang low: "Just wear it properly. Cover your vital parts. I mean, if you expose your private parts, you'll get a fine. If you walk up and your pants drop, you get a fine. They're better off taking the pants off and just wearing a dress."

What a f*cked up law. LOL!

What are they basing this on? The fact that you can discern the shape of a penis through clothing (i.e. underwear.) I guess swimsuits should be outlawed as well... in fact, swimming should just be banned.

    Ridiculous...

I understood that but it doesn't matter. Since when is the government allowed to tell us what to wear?

I read about it and I think its great.

They do it over here in England as well and I just dont understand this new fashion trend to see these gormless looking teenagers walking around with their jeans half way down their arse so most of their boxers are displayed. It should become a global law

Its not telling you what you can wear. Its more like enforcing indecent exposure laws.

Where is the line. Some kids have there pants below their ass. So is it indecent just when they are in the mall with them around their ankles?

The line is no where. How can someone say it is "indecent" to walk around with your underwear showing. Like I said before, we would have to ban swimming. Can't wear shorts without underwear anymore because that would turn your shorts into boxers. Bras shall not be visible and the breasts of women must always be shrouded in one.

To even suggest that is a bad thing should be criminal!! More visible thongs make the world a better place.

I really cant believe anyone would think that government should bet telling any one what can and can not be worn. Is their no limit, to what can be taken away form one person, simply because another finds it offensive? And now who becomes the judge of what is and isn't offensive?

It's legal to walk around topless here in Canada, but I haven't seen any women do it yet

The government tells you what you can do with your body and what you can put in it. Why are you surprised that they can tell you what you can wear.

And its not tell you what you can wear. But you cant be out in public with your pants around your knees. Isn't that common sense anyway?

I just cant believe that anyone agrees with it, and they should not be able to tell us what we can put into or on our bodies. "My right to swing my fist, ends where your nose begins" I find it amazing that Americans as a hole just accept crap, we often say "its a free country" but is it? why am I not free to use AS, I'm not hurting anyone, if I chose to were baggy pants, then who am I hurting?
    I just don't get it.

You can wear baggie pants if you want to, they aren't saying you can't. I am sure they don't want people wearing tight pants and them hanging off your ass either. I think it is silly to be honest, but the style is silly as hell as well so what do I care.
