HOUSTON — Seven convicted sex offenders with profiles on MySpace.com have been arrested in what Texas officials said was the country's first large-scale crackdown of registered offenders who use the social networking Web site.

The men were arrested in Houston, Austin, Round Rock, and Glenn Heights during a two-week operation by the Texas Attorney General's Cyber Crimes and Fugitive units.

They were picked up after MySpace.com released the names of offenders with online profiles to the state Attorney General's Office, which had issued a subpoena for the site's subscriber information.

"Texans will not tolerate criminals who prey on our children," Attorney General Greg Abbott said in a statement.

After it was criticized for failing to protect underage subscribers, the site supplied names to attorneys general in other states, and began checking subscribers' criminal histories through Sentinel Safe, a database of registered sex offenders.

In Houston, officials arrested Patrick Joseph Blevins, 49; Reginald Lee Collins, 27; Ronald Daven Metoyer, 41; and Robert Shepard Walter, 23. Walter was also charged last month with failing to register as a sex offender.

Each was ordered held without bond in the Harris County jail. Motions were also filed to revoke the parole of Blevins, Collins and Metoyer. A Harris County jail official would not release information on the men's attorneys late Thursday.

Scott Peter Hansen, 44, was arrested in Glenn Heights, a Dallas suburb. Information on his incarceration or attorney were not immediately available late Thursday.

Jason Labronte Carr, 31, was taken into custody in Austin. A Travis County jail official said Thursday night she did not have access to information on Carr's attorney of record.

Jeremy Bryan Polak, 28, a parole violator accused of failing to register as a sex offender, was arrested in Round Rock, an Austin suburb. A Williamson County jail official said his records did not include Polak's attorney of record.

A message left with MySpace.com's media ***artment was not immediately returned Thursday night.

Seems to me that child molesters are better tolerated if they're heterosexual than not.

and yet my brother at age 12 was sexually molested by a homosexual, and there was no news story..

i wonder if that is because the homosexual was the democratic mayor in our town??

    we'll never know...

    If the shoe fits...

How do you figure that "...child molesters are better tolerated if they're heterosexual..."? The three 'men' (I don't consider them to be men, preying on young girls) arrested in Houston were held without bail. That shows that the judge didn't show any sort of 'favoritism' towards the heterosexual, repeat sex offenders. Myself and everyone I know do not support any type of child molestation, homosexual or heterosexual.

Posts like yours get under my skin, and I seem to remember another one of your posts in the past that annoyed me as well. It's like a white person saying "If he was black, they would have let him go..." Ignorance.

I have nothing against gay people, bisexuals, white, black, asian, red, green or purple. I do have an issue when the article Logan posted, showed no sort of information for you to make some of the comments you made.

What gets under my skin is how the news media publishes stories like this but doesn't note the sexual orientation of heterosexuals when they're guilty. But they do when gays are guilty. This sort of reporting gives people the impression that gays are child molesters.

Seems to me that if the news is going to report on "Homosexual Sex Rings" then they should report on "Heterosexual Sex Rings." After a few years of this, the general public will become as uneasy trusting their kids to heterosexual babysitters as they are to homosexual babysitters.

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, as they say . . .

I see your point. I just didn't see the need to mention it in relation to Logan's post.

I believe the reason the media doesn't say 'heterosexual' in the reports is because it is considered the norm among society. Would it be politically correct? Sure, but how politically correct is the media...

I do not have kids, I'm still a little young for that. But, when I do have kids, I will be just as cautious when picking between a heterosexual babysitter as I would a homosexual babysitter.

Ya, well, sometimes a point worth mentioning is what's omitted from a news story.
    To me, anyway . . .

I've always been under the impression that pedophiles are neither gay nor straight... they are pedophiles. They are sick adults who prey on children. It makes no difference to me what sex they prefer, they are just as twisted and sick.
