Got accutane script today - Aust.

Bit of info for the Aussie members about accutane.

Have been on tetracycline anti-biotics for 3-4 months with some improvement in my acne, but not satisfied with the results. Decreased breakouts, but the ones I am getting are bigger & more painful sub-surface blemishes.

Went to my reg doctor expecting to need to go to a dermatologist to pleed for accutane, which I was doubtful of getting considering my acne is a mild case which mainly came out 2-3 months after my last cycle.

Anyways, went in, told him I'm 30 and I'm sick of this, been on anti-b's for 3-4 months and no satisfied. He suggested accutane straight up. No need for specialist or regular blood work. BTW, only on 20mg a day (2x 10mg).

Just wanted to let the Aussie bro's know. Go on the anti-b's for 2-3 months (which are easy to be perscribed) and tell you doc your not satisfied if they aren't helping enough.

Apparently NSW is the only state you need to see a dermatologist these days, which I sourced from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isotretinoin
    in the perscribing restrictions section.

if the doc prescribed you at only 0.5mg per 1kg of your body weight which i assume he did cos 20mg is a very low dose, that means you really dont have that bad of acne, and you might not appreciate its side effects so i dont see why you would take it, this drug is very harsh. But if you say anti-b's arent clearing them up then go for it, you might not feel that bad of side effects with such a dose anyway, your just gona hate it when your face dry's too much. sec. blood work is needed, i cant believe he said its not needed, my doc had me do blood work once a month when i was on it, and so did everyone i know who took accutane. ask him to do that for you once a month, if not then i still advice you do it on your own, for blood work you have to check triglyceride levels, and liver functions. accutane is a toxic oral.

    good luck

yeah, my acne's not that bad, but I get enough breakouts to piss me off.

I'll talk to the doc about the blood work, especially if I need to increase the dose.

Thanks for the advice X Moe.
