does minoxidil PREVENT hair loss or STOP hairloss/REGROWS hair?

the word stop is kinda vague.. i've searched all over but still couldn't find my answer so i'll ask here.

is minoxidil used as a preventive measure (preventive being no hair loss seen yet) or is it used as a solution (meaning hair loss is beginning to show..)

I dont think the word "prevention" is relative in this case. Your either prone to MPB or not. If youre not then there is no need to prevent it. If you are prone to MPB then any drug will only minimize/slow the progress. Minoxidil is more for regrowth while Finasteride is more for prevention. A topical solution as in Nizoral is effective as well.

Minoxidil will stop hairloss, and in 1 out of 3 cases (reported), RE-grows hair.

I personally use and with the very little recession I had, has re-grown hair in the temple area.

    Regain 5%.

yeahh i get what you're saying. i'm not sure if i'm making myself understood lol. as in. i don't know if i have MPB. so what are the preventive measures i can take?

kinda like.. vitamins are preventive measures against illnesses, while you take meds only after you fall ill. i wonder what category minox falls into? i know fina is def taken only AFTER mpb shows, while nizoral can be used as a preventive.

Well finasteride will greatly aid in controlling the conversion of test to DHT but then again it has its flaws as well, i.e reduced libido, inhibiting gains. Honestly Id suggest you find out if you're prone to MPB and use Nizoral because its cheap and safe. If you see massive shed then start taking finasteride. Minox will not do much in controlling androgens and DHT, it stimulates hair growth. Finas, Dutas, Niz or Spiro defiantly are the solutions for prevention.

should i use nizoral once my cycle starts? or wait till hair starts shedding?

i wanted to use precautions such as nizoral, but after thinking hard i thought it may not be such a good choice. in my younger years i always had dandruff problems, so i was thinking of not using nizoral unless i see hair shed. afraid that the change of shampoo might cause reactions.

my dandruff problem was so bad at some point my scalp was practically flaking off and the hairdresser said that if i didn't get it fixed i would have bald patches. any suggestions? (now my scalp is totally fine though, with the use of a certain shampoo of course)

No, I think nizoral is a decent preventive measure because 1)Its not systematic and has less sided then Finast. 2) Its extremely cheap.

Nizoral is actually made for controlling dandruff.

hmm alright. i'll prob start with nizoral 1x a week to see if any problems occur. just afraid my scalp may have allergic reactions to the active ingredient in nizoral. head & shoulders never worked for me, it worsened my dandruff condition!

    thanks alot Prada!
