Thread: AS vs AAS

    AS vs AAS

Okay, first and foremost, thanks for the help.

Second, I attempted a search, and my first term (AS) is too short for it to search for. So I am asking here:

Is AS = AAS? I know that seems like a stupid question, but in my reading, I understand that AS is Anabolic Steroid and AAS is Anabolic Androgenic Steroid.

Let me break this down to my question....

Anabolic definition is the ability to promote anabolism (cell growth)

Steroid definition (loosely) is general class of chemical substances

    which leads us to:

Androgenic definition (loosely) ability to affect the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics.

Ok. So my question is are there Anabolic Steroids and Anabolic Androgenic Steroids? Or are they one in the same and the name is just shortened?

Thanks for your help and sorry for the n00b question(like I said, I tried searching first).

I've actually never understood this either. Because from what everything seems, ALL anabolic steroids are also androgenic. Some less than others, and some more than others. But nevertheless, they are all androgenic as well to some degree. So I don't know where the term 'AS' came from.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Thanks.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

Just pure speculation from me, but I belive all Anabolic Steroids = Anabolic Androgenic Steroids. The only steroid I know of that has an androgenic rating of 0 is Oral Turinabol. Does that make it an AS only. Hmmmm?

It is my understanding that anabolic growth is induced by changing the anabolic catabolic ratio in your body, also known as protein turn over rate. Your bodys ptor(protein turn over rate) is the amount of muscle tissue destroyed by the catabolic process being equal to the amount of tissue built through anabolism, in order to maintain homeostasis. Your ptor is your body weight X 1.818. So a 200 lb bodybuilder will through homeostasis build and destroy 363.3 grams of tissue a day in order to stay balanced. An anabolic steroid can either up the anabolic level, supress the catabolic levels, or both. Thus more tissue is being created vs destroyed each day and that is how the muscles grow.
An androgen is a substance to put simple causes growth through an increase in testosterone and its many avenues of growth. One of those being an increase in work load capacity, or the amount of weight you can lift.
Some substances are highly anabolic, some are highly androgenic, some are both.
It is my own personal practice to use androgens mainly for growth, and anabolics to solid***y the growth
