Need Serious Help!!

Alright... so I have been visiting some sites (like this one) on my company Laptop, and I need to wipe out all trace of websites that I have visited...

I don’t just mean the temp files... I need to wipe this baby clean enough that only SUPER TECH NERDS would be able to dig it out.

I have also acquired a shit load of Viruses along the way which have been trapped in my Norton and deleted... However... I found one last night that I was not able to delete. I have no idea why, but it says "Left Alone"... which im sure can’t be good!!

I also need to delete my Threat History log in Symantec...

Only problem is.... I’m computer illiterate.

Can some one PLEASE talk me through this (in DUMMY language).

I am willing to pay... (Seriously) if someone can help me out.

reinstall your operating system

1. back up all important data. ie; pictures files music...
2. insert cd/dvd that came with your computer it should say windows and have the COA with the instalation code
3. boot the computer with the cd/dvd in and it should auto run from bios

once everything is installed download the chipset drivers then video drivers and all your applications you like anti virus and spyware of course i suggest spy sweeper for spyware.

Bro, thanks for the advice. But because this is a company laptop, I dont have access to the cd/dvd that came with it. Plus with all the other programs that are installed, i would have no idea how to save/reinstall the stuff.

try tools and delete browsing history and then control pannel>system maintance>free up disk space

that is a basic clean also if you have any videos saved to WMP you can delete the play list but in order to get rid of the cashed video just find likw a regular utube or whatever video and play that to over wright the loas stored vid

I have no idea... i just know that in recent days there have been a swarm of "warning" emails being sent out, reminding people of the "policies and procedure" while using company assigned machines. Plus I heard a rumor that they just brought in a new tech nerd squad to specifically monitor it. Now, they can’t monitor me most of the time because I am not working on their server (I think that’s what it's called), but I fear that if they were to look into my browsing history, they would turn up allot of "questionable content".

Do any of you system guys know whether or not it's the norm for these guys to randomly search through someone’s browsing history? Or is the monitoring done by a "flagging" system, when someone is working on the company server?

I work out of the office most days, so im either using my home connection, or a wireless connection to access the internet.

I apologize for sounding like a moron, but when it comes to tech stuff... im completely clueless.

BTW: Thanks for that advice Broken. I did the free disk space thing, and deleted like 26,000 temp internet files.

I couldnt find where to delete the browsing history though.

Perhaps you could find a good pc repair shop in your area and bring it to them to have it cleaned up. I know where I work, all the pc's go through the main server, so regardless what you do to the individual computer the main server still holds the data on any sites you have visited, etc. Hopefully that's not the case where you are.

Im on a lap top though, Im not on a PC or stationary computer (dont know if that makes a difference or not).

No, not just the gear sites. It's gear sites, and lots of sports sites. Also, downloaded a bunch of tunes from Aries (no porn, but im sure that allot of the viruses came from there). Lots of email use, Yahoo, hotmail, hushmail...

I think I might try to take it to a computer repair shop... but they may refuse to work on it because of it being company property.

youll be alright just dont use it anymore for questionable surfing

if your using internet explorer 7 tools should be in the right corner of the web page your on right now and you can look for delete browsing history and this will remove the evidence from your lappy not what the server has saved

the tech geeks prolly wount really give a shit to search surfing history the'll probally be spending all there time dicking with the ****ing server OS settings to prevent/catch future infractions

unless the company payed to have the surfing history brought up

trend micro house calls google it its free and will find a ton of viruses..

Also look into FPROT you might have a tough time making this one work though so skip if need be.


download adaware, cc cleaner, registry cleaner, avg antispyware, these are all free go into tools in internet explorer/ internet options then delete browsing history (hijack this(be carefull with this one because you can mess your computer up)
