So I'm starting a bulk cycle in a few weeks. Id like some input on what would be best to get the calories I need and gain more lean mass. Love muscle milk but heard some don't like it due to the fat

i bet u'll see better results if you get the overwhelming majority of yer cals from real FOOD!
dont rely on protein powders for cals![]()
food ftw.... pwo is the only time i drink a shake...
wutever protein shakes are protein, protein shake=food.. lets get it right.. No difference..
if you want the muscle milk taste with a protein blend then look at Evopro by cytosport...good stuff tastes just like muscle milk without the added fats and cals and it has a blend of proteins
if you beleive this then... head on over to the diet forum.... and good luck to you sir...Originally Posted by Archetype
Evo huh? sounds good...yes muscle milk is just awesome for taste. Ill try that out.
As for relying on powders for food...well mostly looking for fillers during times i cannot eat. Making all the right foods for a diet is extremely time consuming and well we all dont sit at home all the time do we.
Pewtang : Diet is already made out...just gotta pick it up. I aske here about supplements since you guys know about alot of the stuff my friend would'nt
Still doing research though and will be on here religiously =o)
if your on a bulk, your going to gain the most muscle mass if you gain some fat, so i would say you could leave your muscle milk.
make sure to take your creatine as well.

That being said.... Protien is a good supplement for food but will never replace food totally. Hence it being a "supplement"
sorry, but protein shake does not = food. You should start a poll and see how many members agree with you on this, you may be surprised.Originally Posted by Archetype
Thank you very much for that reply, I wish more people shared your thoughts on this. I have no problem with someone disagreeing, but they should always do it in a respectful and polite way, many just don't seem to get that.Originally Posted by Brighton
Totally with ya there IMA. Not surr why its like that either. No one knows the meaning of respect nowadays.
that thought of protien supplements as food never seems to go away. Wonder where that idea comes from
I think a lot of it comes from the supplement companies that want you to buy their product, so they try to convince you that their product has all the nutrition you would ever need in a handy little drink. Don't get me wrong, I love shakes as an addition to my already huge diet, but would never replace food with a shake.
i read somewhere that ur body takes like 30mins to process whey protein where prot from food takes hrs, thats the difference.the argument is that its not in ur system long enough to be utilized so its less effective.some argue the other way, but dont go calling someone out cause they dont agree with u. yea i only drink a shake PWO like pewn said and u'll find alot of members here do the same at least those who eat for lean mass gains.
Totally agree i love my food. I could never survive without real flavor. I love the replacements though. They are a godsend for those of us who have such little time.
I think its good to drink some protien right after working out then eat a small meal. That way you get best of both worlds
lol yea i did come across there sounding disrespectful, but i didnt mean it that way. sory bout that guys.. but your body uses the protein that you get from protein shakes, yes its food for your body. How could protein not be food for you body? Im not saying that you should live off of protein shakes all day long, but you guys act like your afraid to take protein shakes when theres nothing wrong with it.
But all respect to those that would rather get it from food, man if i could i would load up on steaks and eat that all the time, but its not possible lol..
And for the most part I was joking when i said "get it right", and saying "this guys a joke".. i guess i have to remember it comes out differently when your typing something.
shit ya it is!Originally Posted by Archetype

Food also contains many macro nutrients, and not to mention the effect digestion has on the metabolism, and not to mention the slower digestion means a steadier stream of nutrition throughout the day ..and...and...
Protein powders have their place, and if you werent getting enough protein, supplementing is fine. But they should never be your major protein source.
