    High Volume Training

Okay guys I am a major fan of high volume. Here's a little background. I worked out quite heavily in highschool till I met my ex-gf and said to hell with it. I did that for about a year and then I decided to get back into it and I picked up one of Arnold's books and started following a high volume, upper body one day, lower body the next routine. All the exercises included 5 sets, however, I only did 2-3 exercises per bodypart. I gained muscle real fast but eventually I think my body got used to it and I was at a stand still... I started on another program which wasn't as many sets but more exercises and I didn't really gain anything so I thought I was stuck at a plateau. I did that for a month and then I went back to my original one of Arnold's yesterday and wala! Today my muscles feel fuller and thicker and believe it or not they look bigger... Ionno what it is... Maybe my body is just a great responder to high volume but I recommend it highly!

Some of what you are saying lines up perfectly with the Slingshot Training System. Everyone repsonds best to a higher volume program for a time, but the gains are short lived because the CNS will become over-trained-hence the muscles wil no longer fire with optimum efficiency.

I would not recommend Arnolds routine to anyone because the volume was excessive even for him, but doing 5 sets per exercise is optimal during a higher volume phase. It sounds like you are figuring some things out in the right direction. Just remember more is not always better and proper periodization is key..

    Good luck..
