Question on rep range for toning.

Hi there Guy's. I need a little advice that I can give my girlfriend with her training. She has decicded to start training with me but I am unsure of how many reps she should be doing in her sets. She is looking to tone up and build some upper bodystrength. I am doing 6 -10 reps for building muscle,so should she be going slightly higher with her range ?

It's difficult to interpret the word 'tone'. Do you mean add lean mass, and reduce bodyfat to increase definition? I'll assume so. She should be doing the very thing you are doing, of course switching up the routine periodically to keep the muscles guessing. Women are so afraid they will get huge if they lift heavy weight, but they don't have enough testosterone in them to get huge. Besides, most of us lift that way, and we know how difficult it is to pack on lean mass.

On a side note, her diet also had to be in check if she wants to achieve the tone look. You can have great muscles, but you won't be able to see shit if your bodyfat is out of control. Solution: good routine and solid diet.

i would have her do light wieght 12-15 reps and def do a diet check... make sure her protien intake is good... most women are afraid of taking protien shakes cus they dont want muscle... its funny i drink them and eat protien and its a pain to gain muscle... like dnomac said she doesnt have enough test in her to bulk up..

i dont think doing 8,10 or 15 reps is gonna make a diff. diet and cardio is gonna be the deciding factor in how "toned" you get.
