    Cholesterol

Is there any steroids that I can take if I have high cholesterol? Maybe even something that can help reduce cholesterol?

If you have high cholesterol I would suggest not taking steroids and work on getting your lipids back to normal. Some good OTC supps for cholesterol support are Red yeast rice, flush free niacin, fish oil, flax oil and eat oatmeal every day too

    Beat me to it.
Impeccable advice, the only thing I'd add to the above is a period at the end of the last sentence.

There are steroids that are mild on your lipids.
What are your cholesterol levels?I was just reading about cholesterol and statins being anabolic.Statins are a class of drugs prescribed to lower the level of cholesterol in the blood. This class of drugs includes lovastatin (Mevacor), simvastatin, (Zocor), fluvastatin (Lescol), pravastatin (Pravachol), rosuvastatin (Crestor) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The mechanism by which statins lower cholesterol is by blocking the enzyme in the liver, hydroxy-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMCoA) reductase, responsible for producing cholesterol. Statin drugs lower total serum cholesterol levels, including HDL, as well as LDL levels.

Cholesterol intake and blood level represent two independent variables affecting hypertrophy. Subjects who responded the best to weight training were those consuming a cholesterol rich diet AND having a high blood cholesterol level AND using anti-cholesterol statin drugs. It is very surprising to discover that such drugs improved muscle gains as they are associated with myalgia, muscle weakness and muscle wasting in sedentary subjects.

Statin drugs accelerate muscle hypertrophy. The more we train, the more resistant our fibers get. It is increasingly difficult to damage them sufficiently to force them to grow. By rendering our fibers more fragile, statin drugs allow each rep to be more damaging to our muscles. As our muscles cannot seem to strengthen its fibers enough to counteract this fragilizing effect, they have no choice but to keep on growing.

If moderate weight training does not seem to affect cholesterol levels, a traumatic workout will most definitely induce an acute reduction of blood cholesterol level within 2 hours (1). This shortage of cholesterol can last up to several days during the recovery phase. This lowering effect is due to an accelerated uptake of cholesterol by skeletal muscle. It reveals our fibers need this extra cholesterol in order to recover and grow.

Cholesterol builds up over a period of years, taking roids for a cycle will probably not have a significant long term effect. Taking "statins" is the best thing you can do to lower your LDL and trigs, while increasing your good cholesterol(HDL)

All the information about over the counter supp's to lower your cholesterol (red yeast rice, fish oil, oatmeal, cherios, etc...sounds real nice, but in actuality, do very little. Believe it or not, diet and exercise only have a minimal effect on lowering cholesterol, because about 80% of one's cholesterol comes from within.

Cholesterol generally arises from one of two sources: exogenous (diet) and endogenous (synthesized from precursers). Dietary cholesterol contributes about 20% of the body's total cholesterol. Endogenous synthesis accounts for the remaining 80%. So basically, eating a perfect diet, along with 6 bowls of cherios a day and exercise will only lower total cholesterol by about 20% (some people more, some less, depending on if they are hyperabsorbers!)

I guess my point is, do your cycle, take your statin, diet, exercise, and take your supps (understanding that the statin is necessary and the supps are just that)

why on earth would you want to take a statin to lower your cholesterol if you can do it other ways? Yes the OTC supps and high fiber foods actually do work when taken correctly..I have seen my values change dramatically. Red yeast rice is a great supplement for cholesterol control. Its very similar to a statin in that effect. If you have high cholesterol, you shouldnt be taking steroids. Get your values under control first before taking a cycle.

Agreed 100%. Especially given the horror stories linked to statin drugs.

    Copy that!
Naturally drugs should be the last result in seeking a cure; only the very lazy employ them first or even early!

I am not saying, don't try to lower your cholesterol without statins. What I wrote was that statins work the best and they also have clinical outcomes data showing that they help reduce coronary events. Red yeast rice, and other otc supps have absolutely no clinical data with regard to this. Also, ON AVERAGE, a person can only lower their values by about 20% with these supps. That's awsome that you were able to lower your levels with supps, but again most people will only have minimal results and they normally don't last.

Finally, as a whole, the Statin class of drugs, are extremely safe. If a person's lft's increase, your doctor will take you off the drug, as simple as that, Many physicians take statins prophylatically, due to their benefits!

    Excellent discussion.

Some people could eat RYR until they popped and it would not bring their cholesterol in check.

Is the arguement here that they should never use test?
