Deadlifts- why did i get back pain?

    hey guys

the other day i was doing deadlifts normally- warm up 2 sets each of 135 and 225x12. then i jumped to 315x25 reps for my first work set and went to my second work set (as normal) for 465. usually i can get 10 reps in but after my first rep i had to drop the weight quick- i got this pain in my lower back. It was bothering me a lot the next day and i had trouble tieing my shoes and laying down. The day after it got quite a bit better and today its just bothering me a bit, but its improving each day.

Do you think i should do another warm up set before jumping to 465? im really not sure how this happened- it happened to me once before but only when i was a novice like 4-5 years ago. It has not happened since and it concerns me. My form was proper though; i did not do anything out of the norm.

Sounds like a pulled muscle. Twent five reps is over-kill. Go to the top of this section and read about Slingshot Pyramiding. That should resolve your lower back problem given you are using the proper training split.

you have a sprain/strain, it happens, ice and take motrin, take a wk or two off from lower back work. the extra warm up set wont neccesarily prevent this from happening. it just happens

you are doing sets of 25 with 315? No way your form is good. No wonder you pulled something. A set of 25 on dead lifts is just plain stupid IMO

yes thats what i do to failure- although i have to say at the end they become more like rack deadlifts.

ive been very used to doing high reps with the weight a bit lighter when i can and just going to complete failure on my sets.

you NEVER train deads to failure, you are asking fo back problems. do multiple sets with less reps, i wouldnt go over 8-10 reps and that is pushing it. i have been deadlifting for about 16 years succesfully, if you dont want to hurt yourself, listen to what i am telling you
