    accutane vs. vitamin A

i have read and been told by many people that taking vitamin A in large doses is basically does the same thing as taking accutane... i wanted to know whether or not this is true and if so how much of the vitamin A would be considered to be enough (a large dose).

im not sure if height and weight are a factor but if so

Vit A and Accutane are very similar, accutane has less sides.. Itchy dry skin, cracked lips, nausea & vomiting

Accutane will basically shut down your sebacious glands. Which is why the common sides are what they are... dry lips, eyes.. itching etc. No oil= no food for the bacteria.

Accutane is derived from vitamin A... however taking vitamin A in ordinary doses will do nothing for acne and taking high doses may or may not help but it won't help like accutane does. (otherwise they wouldn't use accutane... they'd use vitamin a :P)

Accutane (isotretinoin) may be a derivative from vitamin A, but it's actions are completely different. Accutane: reduces sebum, shrinks sebaceous glands, alters DNA transcriptase....a serious medication indeed. Vitamin A will do almost nothing for acne--you'd be better off with a good cleanser, benzoyl peroxide, and a non-comodogenic moisturizer.

    man... the list is long:

"Conjunctivitis (``pinkeye''), dry or fragile skin, dry or cracked lips, dry mouth, dry nose, itching, joint pains, nosebleed, bowel inflammation and pain, chest pain, decreased night vision, decreased tolerance to contact lenses, delay in wound healing, depression, fatigue, headache, nausea, peeling palms or soles, rash, skin infections, stomach and intestinal discomfort, sunburn-sensitive skin, thinning hair, urinary discomfort, vision problems, vomiting"

"Accutane has been linked to serious side effects with more than 1,300 psychiatric side effects including severe depression and more than 66 cases of suicide."

nevertheless i do consider it as a miracle drug.. i've been there, done accutane cycle and the results are amazing! you can not really compare it to any other acne drug - there's accutane and the rest.

My dermatologist said he had a couple patients go crazy on accutane. Plus they have to monitor your liver while your taking it...its some serious stuff.

It has a black box warning too... quite a few people have killed themselves after taking accutane.
