see a fertility doc, get blood work and find out the root cause of your low sperm count. Depending on your bloodwork gonadotropins may help. Do not self prescribe these meds though for the purpose of sperm count, see the appropriate specialist.

sounds like, that doc has the old "when your a hammer everything looks like a nail syndrome."

You should see a new doc. It is tough to say without knowing your bloodwork but most docs will try other means of intervention first.

Some men with relatively mild sperm abnormalities have been treated with clomiphene citrate in an attempt to improve the semen. According to published medical literature, Clomid for the male sometimes can improve the sperm count or motility.

A combination of HCG/HMG can help for some conditions. The money is in IVF and the docs are going to push that. Honestly the success rate speaks loudly in favor of IVF but it costs $$$. It depends how much time you have to play around. Anabolic steroids though will lower your sperm count, even if only temporarily.
