I just had labrum surgery and am in desperate need of help!

On December 31, 2007 I had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum that was torn posterior from 7 to 11 o'clock and I also had a small tear in the front. My doc used 4 absorbable ancors in the back and 1 in the front. I start PT Monday January 7. I am about to turn 28 years old. I'm 6' 250 and am all natural (no AAS or HGH).

Can someone who's had this surgery tell me this: Will I ever be able to box again? I used to box amateurs and would love to one day make a comeback. Will I ever be able to throw punches again 100% pain free and with full force?

Can someone who has had this surgery before PLEASE help me. I'm scared to death and am a nervous wreck!!!

yes you will recover. I had labrum opperation in 03. took about 14-16 weeks to be able to train again with any respectable weights though. after 6 months I was back to my pre surgery poundages with no pain at all. Still to this day no pain and shoulder is 100%. PM me if ya have any questions.

had the same surgery and continued to fight afterwards. do your physical therapy religiously. continue some of the exercises for the rest of your career. it's a horrible surgery and lengthy rehab, but don't rush it.

BTW - labrum is devestating for athletes that use overhand motions (pitchers), not so bad for boxers. you'll be fine (eventually).

You say that labrum surgery is devestating for athletes that use overhand motions, right? OK, I know this might sound silly but do you think it's possible when I'm ready to go back to boxing and I'm all healed that I won't be able to throw an overhand right punch any more? That's my best punch! MMA could you throw an overhand punch with your bad shoulder?

Also, could you tell me about your surgery and recovery?

I'm at 2 weeks post op (surgery was 12-31-07) and my shoulder kills any time I move it. When the therapist moves it and stretches it at PT it KILLS! The thing that's strange is this: I don't have pain in the shoulder itself but rather in my upper arm on the outside of the arm. The position that hurts the most is when I do an external rotation movement (even passively with the therapist). Is this normal or is something wrong?

Do you guys think it's possible that I ripped the repair? I haven't done anything crazy with the arm but I do take off the sling when I'm at PT and when I'm showering and getting dressed. And my doc said I could take it off when I'm at home watching TV so therefore there are times I am out of the sling, so maybe something happened to the repair. Like I said, I haven't done anything crazy with the arm but I HAVE made movements with the arm when I'm getting dressed, showering, and even when I'm laying in bed. I'll ask again, do you guys think it's possible that I ripped the repair? My doc said it's hard to rip the anchors out but he said it is possible to rip the tissue from the anchors if you do something stupid with the arm. Would I absoloutly KNOW if I ripped the tissue from the anchors? Am I just being paranoid?

at 2 weeks post op you cant move it with enough speed or force to rip anything. I was paranoid 2 but I was basically assured that unless I did something stupid Id be fine too. I know what your going through bud. Just stay with that pt and you will be ok. patience grasshopper.
