WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Former Olympian Marion Jones has been sentenced to six months in prison for lying about using steroids and a check-fraud scam, despite her plea that she not be separated from her two young children "even for a short period of time."
"I ask you to be as merciful as a human being can be," she said.
Last October, Jones admitted she lied to a federal investigators in November 2003 when she denied using performance-enhancing drugs. She said she took a designer steroid "several times before the Sydney Olympics and continued using it after."
The sentence completes a stunning fall for the woman who was once the most celebrated female athlete in the world. She won three gold and two bronze medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

    ^^^^^^

Agreed…I can’t believe they’re treating her like a common crack head and giving her jail time and threatening to take her children away. I would think if anything her discipline and athletic performance has elevated the standard of living for her and her family. And it is almost impossible to compete at such a level without athletic enhancements when the steaks are so great… You’re absolutely right about the new political witch hunt…. If any thing I could understand probation but not jail time. I hope when she gets out she writes a book about the whole ordeal and makes $million$... That will show the assholes who went after her…

I didn't know talking to Federal investigators = sworn testimony under the penalty of perjury.

This is retarded. I really hope Ron Paul gets the chance to be elected.

I'm pretty sure this is why she got the 6 months, but on every news report I've seen and heard it reads as follows:

"Marion Jones got 6 months for lying to federal investigators about her steroid useage......oh, and also check fraud."

As though check fraud is the minor issue.

Lying under oath is a very real crime. But sentencing this woman to any prision time serves no purpose. It would have better served society to have her speak to young people under a community service punishment. This is a witch hunt that seems to have no end...........
