Question about expired protein!

So I went to GNC the other day to buy protein , and there was a soy protein that was half off to get it off the shelves. It expired the 8th of march..she said they are good for 6months to a year after the expiration date?
Was it BS?
Did i just lose 20bucks?
I got 4lbs of Soy Protein 95 from GNC
