    Oil seeping out during injections?

On alot of my injections after pulling the pin out I see a little blood, this I know is normal but alot of times it apperas that a little oil seeps out as well. Is this just blood plasma or am I doing something wrong and really losing some of the oil by it coming back out of the injection site?

I have had that happen to me before as well. I was using a 23G 1" pin. I switched to 1.5" pins and that stopped for me.

Ive heard of people using a "Z" pattern to stop leaks right after injects. whatyou do is stretch out the skin at the injection sight and then whenever your pulling it out you release the skin. Its suppose to make a difference. you could try it and see, but it sounds like you are actually losing some of the juice if your seeing it come out of the inject sight.

Well what size pin are you using and where are you injecting when this happens?

I agree with the above methods, although that's hard to do on some sites. I like to inject very slowly, then after injecting, wait 30 seconds or so before slowly pulling the pin out. I have an alcohol swab ready and immediately apply to the area once the pin is withdrawn.

It is called Z track ....

LATERALLY DISPLACING THE SKIN AT THE INJECTION SITE PREVENTS DRUG LEAKAGE INTO YOUR PATIENT'S SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE. HERE'S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW.

    DON'T

Don't inject into a tender area or an area with lumps or nodules.

Don't inject into a the solution quickly or an area with lumps or slowly.

Don't inject the solution quickly or remove the site, which could force the medication slowly.

Don't massage the site, which could force the medication into the needle track and irritate the tissue. DO

Gather the appropriate equipment and check the medication order.

Explain the procedure to your patient.

Wash and dry your hands, then draw up the medication.

Choose an appropriate injection site, such as the ventrogluteal, dorsogluteal, or vastus lateralis site.

Attach a new needle that's at least I% inches (3.75 cm) long to the syringe. A long needle can pass through the fatty layer and subcutaneous tissue into muscle. Put on disposable gloves.

To form the Z track at the injection site, use the ulnar side of your nondominant hand to pull the skin and subcutaneous tissue about 1 inch (2.5 cm) to the side. Hold the skin in this position until you've administered the injection.

With your dominant hand, swab the site thoroughly with alcohol, applying friction. Allow it to dry completely.

the only problem is if you do your own injections pretty much the only place you can do a z track is your quads. because you cant pull the skin down and hold it, then stick yourself then aspirate and shoot with 2 hands. its impossible to do this anywhere except maybe pecs and calves also but in all honesty we are talking about maybe at the most 1/10th of one ml coming out. so for me i just load and extra .1ml and forget about it.

i AGREE.... I only get a drop come out and no reddness or lumps, and I am gaining so what lex said is the best thing to do.

    Good call LEX
