If you're planning to grow, rest is just as important as nutrition and working out hard. You don't grow as you lift. Rather, you grow as you REST.

I do not know your body-type, lifting routine, goals, etc. If you are lifting to grow bigger, then I would suggest you cut back your lifting to 3-4 days per week and rest for the remaining days (which means no cardio on rest days)--again this is only a general suggestion, becuase I do not know your goals/stats.

If you're using steroids, you can definitely grow with less rest (working out 6 days per week), but you would be cheating yourself. You will grow faster with more rest time.

what does your training schedule look like. I do:
    Arms + Legs
    Shoulders + forearms
    Chest + abs
    Back + forearms
    rest
    repeat
so 4 on 1 off, like bask8case said, really depends on the person!

Instictive training. Break when your body tells you it needs it.

:/: I'll agree.Sometimes I can go five straight and take the weekends off. Just listen to what you're body is telling you!

Pheedno said it best. I sometimes lift 3 times a week, sometimes 4, so,metimes 5, sometimes 6...never 7...I shoot for 5 tho. I'm always sore, so rest is crucial.

I will just repeat what others have said. Listening to your body and finding out what it needs is the best medicine. As a general rule I think most peoples workouts are not intense enough and yet they still overtrain by not resting enough. Try some different splits and see how you respond but recovery is a very important piece of the puzzle.
