    Mousetraps

It's been a while since I posted a picture here. I graduated college last year and had put on an extra 10 lbs of fat since then. I am 6'1 and 200 lbs. I am currently doing a 4 day/wk with cardio 3 times in the AM (steady state) on an empty stomach.

I have a job where I travel a lot, but manage to eat breakfast more often than not, and have myoplexes in between meals. I would guess that I get between 175-200 grams of protein a day average, and no idea, but somewhere around 3000 calories per day. I eat the typical bodybuilding foods, with fast food maybe twice a week.

I have really made a big push with AM cardio, and have managed to burn off the forementioned 10lbs of fat. I seem to have a different type of fat than most people I see though, because it seems like my fat is equally spread around my body, instead of clinging to my love handles.

QUESTION: Has anyone had any experience with complexes or HIIT in the AM? I am wondering if adding a couple of complexes to my workout, and switching from steady state cardio to HIIT will benefit me.

Here's a pic from a year ago, so as you can see, I'm probably about the same BF with maybe 5 lbs less muscle now.

I can tell you exactly what will happen.... you will torch off a ton of muscle and drop some bodyfat..... so you will most likely keep a similarly body fat % but you will be a much smaller person as you are attempting to fight the fat gain from your diet with fat loss from your cardio.... you need to clean up the diet to make the kind of gains your looking for hiit on an empty stomach isnt the best idea IMO...

I'm thinking you want to maintain your current level of muscularity and burn off enough fat to have a nice 6 pack and maintain that physique am I correct?

nah, i dont care if I lose a little muscle, it'll come back in the winter. I am more interested in tweaking my cardio right now, and seeing what works right for me. How lean are you Soul? what's the leanest you've ever been? How do you do your cardio?

Leanest I've ever been is about 10% BF.... I just weighed myself 5 minutes ago and I stand 265lbs @ 11.5-12% with 5 weeks of dieting left and I'm losing 1% BF a week right now so I should come in around 7%...... Current I do my cardio 45min PWO 5 days a week @ 68-70% MHR in the evening...

http://forums.steroid.com/showthread.php?t=330825 I'm documenting to whole cut if people are interested.... go check it out...

well, morning hiit is definitely harder as i found out. I still dont think Ill lose much muscle if any. I think that type of talk only applies to people that are well near their genetic limits. Nearer than me anyways. To a great extent, busting my ass > thinking.

Hey mouse, I have been doing Sprint Sets 2-3 times a week. At my gym, we have a soft indoor track around the basketball court. I sprint the track once and then walk it once and will do this 10 times. When first starting out, you maybshoot for 3-5 sprints and work your way up, it has been working for me.

I've thought about sprints, maybe its time to think again. When I raced a 5k a few years ago, I got shin splints real bad around month two of running. My only issue with trying sprinting would be avoiding SS. When do you do them? I would think that after a workout would be ideal. In the morning I feel like my shins would rip apart. Maybe I am wrong.

Yea, I got SS before as well, that' why I will only do them 2-3 times a week, more often 2 times. I got them before becasue I was feeling so pumped after a great work out I got a little carried away and did a set when I already ran the day before, and boom next day I my shins felt like they were hit with a bat. I always do them after my work out. Just start out once a week, especially if you are prone to SS. I am a heavy runner (ground pounder), so thats why I like to use the indoor track that is soft. Initially I was using the treadmill and doing the sprints, basicaly get the speed way up and jump on for one minute and then jump off (biggest loser TV method). But I found that the sprints on the track are better suited for me.

I'm going to comment of the diet. You can choose to consider it or ignore it but I feel the need to at least inform you.

At 3000 Calories and only 175-200g of Protein, you are getting in 2200-2300 Calories from carbs and fat, which is too high for your calorie intake.

I've done HIIT in the morning and thought it worked pretty good, but after experimenting I definitely prefer an hour of mild cardio on an empty stomach.
