I usually don't discuss this with many people but I have numerous heart problems (cardiomyopathy, left bundle branch block, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, mitral valve disorder, coagulopathy, etc.) and my cardiologist told me that lifting was fine as long as I wasn't constantly going for max weight and more importantly...BREATHE. She said that improper breathing when lifting shoots your BP through the roof and throws a terrific strain on your cardiovascular system.
One of the worst things you could do is hold your breath while lifting.
(BTW, my cardiologist is one of the top docs from M-USC and is very exercise oriented with her treatment plans).
Good luck,
AG
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...
