He needs to be careful in my opinion. Im not workout expert by any meens but back when I was 13 a buddy of mine who played sports together started to workout outside of our sport practices and such. The only weights I ever touched were for Arm curls while my buddy who was 14 at the time started to use all kinds of free weight lifting. Luckily he was 5.10 cause he never grew another inch after he started lifting.

Like I said im far from an expert just sharing a personal experience.

I have played with weights off and on since I was pretty young..probably around that age... the thing is to not get to obsessed with "weight training or body building".... just be a kid and play with them a little... aslo imo, kids can focus on core and body weight training at a very young age... i.e...situps, pushups, pullups, running, jumping jacks, mountain climbers... those kinds of things... let it be natural..

Its safe to start training at 13. We started our football program in 7th grade and i can remember benhc, squats, and deads were the core focus. I don't remember any exercises for specific muscles though...Just pushups, situps, pull ups, and wall sits....

13 is a good age to start. Proper technique should be stressed! Don't worry about the amount of weight.

I dont think there is a set age. I think when a young man hits puberty it ok to train. for some it 12 others 15.
