So much for freedom of speech

    http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/04...able%e2%80%99/

Police issued a $75 citation for disorderly conduct on Saturday to Ramirez-Sliwinski , Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne told FOXNews.com.

Ignore the Obama affiliation here. What troubles me is that this lady was ticketed for referring to kids climbing in a tree as monkeys. Whether it was appropriate or not, you CANNOT start fining people for speech.

I am speechless, utterly speechless here (no pun intended)

Section 2 of the 13th amendment gives legislatures the power to enact laws against conduct of "badges of slavery." This has been interpreted to include anti disrimination laws against private individuals. Supreme courts will usually differ to legislatures in determining what acts violate "badges of slavery." So much for originalism of any sort...

She wasn't fined under any such law. She was fined under the policemen's best friend, "disorderly conduct", which basically means you did something that pissed them off and they found a way to fvck you for it.

Yea... The disorderly conduct ordinance is a an abomination of a law...It gives law enforcement officers way too much latitude and they stretch it and twist it to apply in absurd manners. It is unfortunate that we appoint people to positions of authority (Police, Prosecturots, Judges, etc. . .) who later abuse that power against the people who appointed them, and who pay their salaries. Our system is seriously flawed, but is the lesser of all evils thus far.

I got a $100 dollar ticket for distubing the peace for using the F word in public. The cop wrote me the ticket and I wanted to say you're f-ing kidding me right? I held back. I was in the car ride home saying I would fight it, but it was a town 1 hr away, I paid it.

I don't think it says the ticket was for using the word monkey. It says the police were called because of a neighbor dispute.

...because it's Fox*News* and that's not what happened. Fox left out bits and pieces. By your post they got the reaction they wanted.

It is still very possible that is the reason she was ticketed.
