It might not be good to try to lower cortisol

    Hi,
I read lots of threads about cortisol and its catabolic effect, thus bodybuilder trying to lower it. That might not be a good thing.

I went to a doctor specialized in hormones and anti aging therapy.... he explained that cortisol is a response of the body to counter the effect of stress.
There are some people, (and this is my case) that are under chronic stress and for which the body doesn't produce enough cortisol, thus, the body get damaged and tired by stress and as a result can lose weight. Google "Cortisol deficiency" and see for yourself.

On of the effect of this is that I'm skinny, and actually cortisol might help me get more "normal".

Lots of people starting bodybuilding do so because they find themselves to skinny.... lowering even more the cortisol might have a devastating effect in their ability to counter stress, fight infections and gain weight.

it's a catabolic hormone. you need to try and keep it under control. like estrogen, too much of it gives side you don't want. you shouldn't get rid of all of it though, that would hinder gains. imo, better to have too little cortisol than too much.

It's obvious that it has important physiologic functions in our body, otherwise it wouldn't be produced.
But we, as bodybuilders, have to try to keep it at the minimum amount needed, to get rid of the negative effects it has on our trained muscles.
