    What i get to work on....

    here are a few pics of what i get to play with now....it is a jet engine basically, like in a 747, but it is used to generate power....it generates roughly 48MW of power a day and feeds into the Alberta Grid and then down to the US...it is in Northern BC and i am responsible for maintenance on it...

    ya its fukin complicated as hel, but it just looks cool....basically it sucks are in and as it goes through the blades spin and get compressed and as the spinn they generate voltage....the air gets so hot as it is compressed it is used to heat water and make steam which turns another generator and makes more power and it also is used as heating in the entire facility....in a nut shell...lol

    no i am an jouneyman Instrumentation mechanic and journeyman electrician as well...with about 12 yrs oil and gas experience...we take care of the entire control system s on these....yes they are loud, its the exact engine that is on a 747 jet...

    well i know the basic as to how a turbine works.....water turbine spins w/water, wind w/wind.....i get that lol.....just all the technical details i'd have no clue about....if it were to break, i wouldn't have the slightest clue where to even begin....

    my father was an electrical engineer....and he's done a lot of work at power plants in midwest....i've picked up some info from him.....

    my father use to work on jet engines and ive seen plenty of those, glad I dont have to work on then, they are very complicated pieces of machinery.

    I cant believe that jet power is efficient for electricity production. I always thought they were fuel-hogs and pretty wasteful.

    well they do not use gas to create electricity...they use a very small amount of gas to start the engine and the force of the air coming in and moving the blades keeps it moving and then the faster the air comes in and moves through the fatser the generator spins creating electricity...it is actually very efficient...do you know what i mean...like how it works

    I have been around many of them at work, 747, 757, 737 etc. I got to see them crated in and installed up close and personal.

    I remember building a turbine engine as a science project for JH, that was cool but of course it was a little smaller.
