    Protein shakes in between meals

I drink a protein shake consisting of two scoops of GNC whey protein mixed with water in between my meals. Is this a good source of protein?

I heard that there are different types of protein. For example fast acting types and others that your body uses slowly. Is this true?

Whey is the fastest absorbing protein, where as Casein is the slowest (time released, good to take before bed).

to make your whey digest slower just mix it with fiber. And fiber is good if you are cutting anyway as it helps you feel fuller

I mix one up before bed, and leave it in the fridge. I always wake up at 2am so, I chug it down and go back to sleep.

Its just a regular two scoop GNC whey protein shake. I usually get three or four in a day. I probably wait like an hour to an hour and a half after each meal to drink one.

Might suggest eating more food and every 2-2 1/2 hours and cutting out some of the drinks.

Agreed. You really shouldn't have any "in-between" meal times. It should be all meals. The only time you need shakes are PWO-whey and before bed-casein. Even then you could theoretically get by without them. If you are doing this because of your work schedule or convenience, at least switch over to casein, soy, hemp, or egg white protein powder; they are slower digesting and make for a better meal replacement. Regardless of what you do, you have to reduce the number of meals you are getting from shakes, 3 or 4 is way too many.

Weight gainers by nature are filled with empty calories, ie lots of sugar. I would look into making my own weight gainer using quality ingredients instead.
