Do you work out when sick?

Was just wondering how many of you guys work out when sick? Not a major illness but something as common cold but bring your energy levels to lows. I don't feel like lifting weights but i'm gonna try to push my self to going later on in the evening.

I've heard conflicting opinions on this....some say if you have a little cold, then working out could boost you right back up on the horse, but then my brother (ER doc) says working out while ill will just lower your immune system even more and will increase catabolism

I usually just take the day(s) off while sick and try to get sleep and eat well...and plenty of vitamin c

    My rule of thumb:
Above the shoulders: workout. Below the shoulders: rest. Listen to your body bro.

Totally agree! even a cold can be sign ya body can't cope with things its going through at that moment in time.

    Respect it and rest it.

There's always next week to bulk, but look at maintaining if ya body can handle it and it doesnt make things worse.

Looking at the body's point of view, you guys make alot of sense. I thought i was pretty healthy with lots of vitamins and food intake. I freaking felt invisible. Guess i'll eat and not do much work. I geuss i'll take this week off. Thanks for the input.

take a week off anyway and you could come back better - esp. if you have not taken a week off in a while.

I always felt that if my body ached... no workout. If it was in my head or sinus... hit it

I always make an effort, but like shift said... if you need to rest... rest. I tried when I had the flu. Went there, did one rep and could barely press the 55lb dumbells. Just listen to your body brother... it knows best

I do not workout when i am sick.

If your car is overheating do you push it even harder ? And if you do what happens ?

If you are sick thats your body telling you to slow down. Wait till you are 100% before you hit the gym again. If anything, use it as an excuse to be lazy. Just lay back drink plenty of water and eat healthy...god i sound like a doctor

if your symtoms are from the head and up (headache, cough, stuffiness etc) go workout it will make you feel good.

if symptons are throat and down. (soar throat, body aches, temp, stomache etc.) stay home.
