    being prone to size versus being prone to strength

    I'm naturally more prone to getting size gains as opposed to strength gains...

    I've always gotten size quicker than I have strength. People tell me I look really strong but I know I'm not as strong as I look. I suppose it might be water retention inside the muscles but I'm wondering...

    what does this mean in terms of my muscle fibers?
    Does it mean I have more fast twitch or more slow twitch muscle fibers?

    Does it mean I'm more prone to endurance (high reps at lighter weight)?

    means that how your gene's are and if u want to be strong train for strength.

    I think it has to do with your genetics and also how you train. Meaning those that train for sport normally need explosive strength and therefore use short explosive reps, whereas a bodybuilder should use a full range of motion in order to develop the muscle entirely from orgin to insertion. The sport athlete will then have a lot of strength in a smaller package where a bodybuilder might have the same muscle size but not quite as much strength.

    It has a lot to do with tendon thickness and insertions.

    ive been wondering whats up with me also! I have good size/mass, but see a few smaller guy's lifting as much or more..and it leaves me thinkin whats up with me?

    Guess it's how your built in the genes dept.

    Man I wish I was in your boat. I'm the opposite. I can gain strength and not gain size at all even going through the full range of motion for 8-12 reps.

    I have the same issue. I have always been told that I have a big chest, wide shoulders and the rest but I see smaller guys lifting more than I do.

    I too have had that WTF is going on here throughts.

    I notice this all the time. Its kinda funny. I think it may have to do with diet as well as genetics, limb length, joint size ect. Really no way to determine the direct cause. I think is a combination of alot of factors.

    All genes. Then comes practice.

    Its funny, sometimes I see "big" guys (230+ lbs) struggling with half the weight i do (me @ 165lbs) which makes you feel good. Then i turn around and see a "pee-wee herman" doing double the weight i use on a particular movement. DAMN IT !

    All part of the game.

    i make alright gains its just my arms are very long so its hard to make decent gains on the bench....

    are you a BB? if so why does str matter. i am the same as you, i gain size fast but str lags a bit but as long as the gains keep coming i have nothing to complain about

    I agree, it's not how much you can lift but how much you look like you can
