    My Poor Doggy

I was wondering why my dog was licking her hind paw all night long and once I looked at it, I realized that she tore the majority of the pad off of it. I'm not really sure what to do? I don't think it's something the vet can fix, and of course I have nursing supplies so in the mean time I put 4x4's on it and wrapped it with vet wrap. Does anyone have any advice?

Oh no, its not that I'm trying to save money. Trust me, she is my baby girl and she goes to the vet on a VERY frequent basis...she's accident and infection prone.

I guess we will have to wait until Monday, she doesn't seem like she is in pain, but I'll give her a puppy asprin in case. I just don't like taking her to anyone except for our normal vet.

Clean it twice a day with Dakin's solution and keep it wrapped with the 4x4's and vet wrap and she should be fine....

An easy way to make Dakins is to buy a gallon of distilled water, take out 21 ounce's of the water and replace it with 21 ounce's of bleach then add a full table spoon of baking soda and shake slightly until it has mixed well....

My best friend is a vet and he learned this recipe from a nurse friend of his....

It sound's harsh but the shit works wonders....I have rehabbed many dog's and horse's using this solution to kill infection and help promote new tissue....

I have had a horse that had it's neck stomped on in a horse trailer by a stallion that broke lose on the way to a horse show in Lexington Kentucky....The damage to the tissue of the neck was so severe that she slough all the skin and muscle all the way down to her tendon's....Three months later she was healed up good as new just a small indention where the muscle was lost but for the most part it all regenerated it self very well....

I also Had a small Papion dog (not sure of the spelling) that a dog attacked and I ended up having to remove the skin all the way from behind her front leg to her tail and from her belly to to her back leaving only exposed muscle and tissue....I had to suture a few places where the muscle was torn but the skin could not be saved, so I treated as an open wound and believe it or not it was actually completely healed within less than two months, hair and all....All that you could see was one small line if you parted the hair....

Thanks for the advice Horse, I'll give that a shot.

It's also good to hear from you, I was wondering if you were ok or not with the storm coming through.

    Thanks for the concern....

I lost about 75% of my barn and and about a 1/4 of my house roof but the family and the animals all made it threw unscathed so I feel blessed it could have been much worse....My power has been of and on for the last week and I just got my internet back working good enough that I could post again today....

Let me know if you need any more help with the pup....

    Red and irritated?

HORSE sounds like he knows best. But he is known to be a little crazy, I've seen him and his horses.

horse you should start a tv show.

    HORSE Knows Best.

kinda like Hogan Knows Best, but way cooler

Its a pretty common injury we used to weight pull our dogs and that happened quite frequently.

You got some good advice already just depends on how bad it is as to whether or not she/he needs to go to the vet.

You also need to make sure she/he doesn't naw on it that was the big problem I had with one of my dogs, minor tear until he chewed on it for a couple of days

People like HORSE are worth their weight in gold and it sounds like he's got all the bases covered.

You know, im pleasantly surprised that there is quite a large animal loving community on here. Many a times someone loses a pet or their pet gets injured and there is always TONS of support! Doc Sust for instance was awesome when one of my cats got badly injured.

No Pus, no bleeding, not red or irritated. All she was doing was licking it. It looks like a nail was raised out on the porch and thats more than likely what caused it. When it's wrapped she seems fine and she doesn't try to pull it off.

probably better that it is an acute injury, i would treat as horse said but i would still take to vet,i have a 3.5 # maltese that i have fell in love with ( as crazy as that sounds ) i would not take any chance.

    Your Welcome!

I've got a miniature dacshund named Jake who is the one that is kind of sick these days. A wasp or something stung him and he has been having problems ever since, poor guy he is like 11 years old, great dog.

Then I have a 6 month old blue pit bull that is the biggest knucklehead in the world, but you have to love him. His name of course is...Nitro lol!

I'll try to round up some pics and start a doggie thread too at some point.

The puppy is doing much better, I'm not keeping it wrapped anymore, she just tears the bandage off. No limping or even licking it anymore, it looks good.

    TREN!!!!!!

tren will make her sooo piiised off that she will not care about it.
All she will worry about is Who done it, Then she will get her revenge by grabbing that darn cat by the throat and pulling a blade as it tries to helplessly kick her, then cut off the f****ers pads..
Told you yo little pusssy your f****ed man, now look what youve done ya little f**k .
    Sorry,I I don't particually like cats!

    Hope this has helped/

    It did for me.
