    egg whites

iv started drinking 5 egg whites in the morning and 5 at night. iv read that when you boil the egg some of the protein gets destroyed so iv started eating them raw but im getting a little worried about catching salmonella . what are your thoughts on this, would i be at risk ?

I have mine scrambled in the morning if you're worried about a little protein getting destroyed just add 1 more egg white to the mix. I doubt much is really getting wasted anyways.

Risk of Salmonella is very small. Something like 1 in 30,000 eggs are infected. If you have the egg whites in the tub, pretty sure it's safe to eat raw, I know I do when rushed. However, I've heard that whites are more bio-available when cooked, and yolks when raw.

    buy pasterrized
put them in a bowl, some splenda, and it tastes like a dextrose water mixture.

Or you can have them plain.
or u can scramble them or make an eggwhite omellete

when egg whites are pasterrized it means that they are heat treated, would this heat start to brake down the protein

    Don't make it too complicated...

I just scramble 8 egg whites, add 4oz of turkey or canadian bacon to it and I don't have to worry about not having enough protein.

I'm not sure about the uk, but in the US tuna is the cheapest option... You should look online for some good deals for protein supplements and egg substitutes... PM me for some good sites if you want.. Oh and the egg whites in cartons are pasteurized as well...

Well, I don't care where it is, normal eggs are probably the best for price. They taste alright too.

Tuna is good, but to some tastes like crap.

Eggs are cheap no doubt, but if you go by grams of protein per dollar... $2 gets you a dozen eggs and he's just eating the whites, so that's 36g protein for $2 or 18g for $1... Tuna is 54 cents per can at 32.5g of protein per can, so 2 cans is $1.04 and 65g protein... I read a price listing a couple months back in M&F or Flex where there was lsiting of the most protein for your buck and if I remember right the top 3 were tuna, whey, then eggs...

I agree that tuna tastes like shit real fast, but ya do what you've gotta do... just add some mustard to kill the taste...

You dont lose protein when you cook egg whites. You denature the protein and destroy the enzymes. Has nothing to do with losing protein count.

Plus if they are pastuerized you have already lost the vitamins and enzymes in em most likely. Same as milk, which is just useless.

If I read correctly you're saying that the protein count stays intact, but the vitamins go away in the pasteurization process?

What can I do about it if Im drinkning pasteurized eggwhites?
Also, what are enzymes. You mean digestive enzymes?

I guess I can take a good multivitamin to counter.
