Do pushups increase size or strength or both?
Do pushups increase size or strength or both?
No not enough resistance
so doesnt do anything or just every little?
pushups measure upper-body endurance—the ability to use your strength over time.
I think they are great for beginners and to switch up things every now and then. I do them, but they are not a steady in my workout routine.
my friend when we was in the army did 2000 push ups a day,his lats, shoulders, triceps definatly got bigger over time, very v shaped on his upper body
i like doing them with a backpack that holds 45 plates...Add in 1-2 and go to failure and i guarantee you get a nice pump.
I think they're very underappreciated, especially in the bodybuilding community. Using a medicine ball for doing different types of pushups is a huge advantage. Get to where you can bounce back and forth from one hand to the other doing one-armed pushups, and tell me your shoulders, arms, chest, and back do not show improvement. I still believe strength compared to body weight is the true meter to go by.
I've also had to be away from any type of weight training because of job placement for almost a year, and all I did were body resistance exercises. Back in the gym, I'd lost barely any strength. Now, I did stay in good shape by means of running, not boozing, and eating as healthy as I could for the situation.
I used to have to do push ups in the Army. They aren't a bad exercise, but free weights beats them all. When I got to the point in my career where I could, I never done push ups, just lifted weights, only did push ups when had to take the fitness test, I always got the max, so honestly, I don't think push ups even help your endurance level more than lifting weights in the 10 rep range.
pushups can be good for smoking if you know how to work them... doing 4 sets of 20 or something like that is for girlys. there are lots of ways, elevated and diamond, etc.... not meant for a replacement of a bench for gaining size, but they can be good to add as one of many exercises on a chest day...
let me know if anyone wants a smoker routine.
