    What age do you think is too old to have children?

    The most messed up thing happened yesterday, I found out I was going to have a little brother or sister soon. My father who is turning 51 this year knocked up his wh*re girlfriend/ex wife.

    He was married to this woman for 5 DAYS a few years ago before ending it and they have currently been together for the last year. She had a miscarriage about a year ago because she drinks and "parties" and who can blame her, she's only in her early 30's.

    One of the reasons why they broke up for the second or third time was because she wanted a family and kids and my dad said he would look silly pushing a stroller around in his 50's. Now this happens and he is happy so I can't be mad at him it's his life even tho I'm the one who should be thinking about having kids. She's happy too because she just secured the lifestyle she always wanted.

    When do you think it's too old to have kids?

    I knew of an eighty plus year old rich guy who had a 1 year old and another baby on the way with his 25 year old wife. Thats definitely too old, 51 isnt too old but its pushing it personally I wouldnt do it after 40 years old myself.

    I dont think you should judge him...if that is what he wants .....does sound like he will be paying child support with the on and off relatonship but you never know....

    one thing I think that sucks about someone in there 50s having a kid is they probably in most cases won't live too much longer and be able to fully raise there kid.

    Im 21 now..

    My dad is still alive and hes 74...

    His mom is still alive and shes 94...

    Maybe were just special...

    my dad was 55 when i was born. He raised me just fine. I mean sure he wasn;t going to play sports with me but he took care of me pretty well. Mum was 30. I think as long as he is financially well secured, it shouldn't be an issue.

    lol my parents were only 35/29 when i was born, only 2 years older when my second sister was born

    but there is a point when you really shouldn't have any more kids. for one of my "friends" he is 19 and his parents had a son this winter. thats kinda weird to think you will be a grown man when your little brother is in your shoes. and they have been going through some hard times (really long story) for a while, so i think that is a little irresponsible.

    another one of my good friends is my age (19) and his parents are having twin boys this summer, but they aren't too old (maybe 40s) or financially unstable (wow they are rich) to be having a kid. so those are two extremes that i have seen. either one is a different side of the fence as well. if you are able to raise a kid well, and give them what they NEED, then its fine. but if you are forced to neglect them, either financially in this time, or just too busy, its really a bad thing imo

    For a man, from a health of child perspective I do not think there is an age limit. From a practicality perspective, unless you have tons of $$ for hired help, I think after the mid-30's you are getting a little old to be dealing with the exhaustion, stress, etc. that raising an infant requires. Given that this woman is early 30's and dating a 51 year old, maybe she is willing to do most or all of the work?

    IMHO, if the relationship is strained prior to having the child, it will be extremely difficult post child.
