    can I build on it?

Hi guys, this is me. No steroids at all.

The thing is the past couple years I have been working out on my slow twitch muscles pretty much only. I dont lift any weights.

My workouts are 5 miles a day run.

    day 1 : 1,500 pushups
day 2 : 306 pull ups, divided upon all grip types
day 3: 600 squats going all the way down and all the way up
    off
    off
    repeat

every workout day I do a total of 600 sit-ups (4 different types) and scissors etc.

So I am pretty much built out of slow twitch muscle I would think.

Now my question is, will I be able to do weight training, adding muscle without having to sacrifice what I have built up in stamina and slow twitch muscles? Or will I have to sacrifice that to bulk up on weights if I throw weights into the mix?

    Thanks guys.

Lookin good man, but i don't think it's possible to put much mass on with that type of workout. Typically when people bulk they cut the cardio to a minimum as you want to put on a few lbs in order to gain new muscle. I'm no expert though. Good luck man.

You will most likely sacrifice some of your stamina to bulk up. If you do too much cardio you won't be able to bulk at all or will do it very slowly. So cardio tends to be kept to a minimum. 30min low intensity sessions 3x per week.

Slow twitch...all you did was build up lots of endurance within your muscles. I don't see the point unless you're training for a pushups contest. If you want to actually build up size you need resistance. So instead of doing 600 situps which in the end will only create inflexibility in your rectus abdominus do 3 x 8 with enugh resistance that you fail by the last rep.

25 is good. If you were 19 or something, you'd have less of a chance (in terms of the psychological maturity required)

    Good luck, bro!

    Thanks Dude

First and foremost, thank you in advance for serving our country. Second, derek is right on. Just remember 90% is mental.

And about your workouts, just for my two cents worth...You can add some muscle bulk to go along with your current routine. But that gain will be limited. Unfortunately, we can't have both because our bodies just aren't made that way.

Now that's not to say you can't have a decent compliment of both muscle bulk of endurance trained muscle fibers. It's just that to get the best, you have to focus on one or the other.

If you keep your routine up, the muscle growth will be kept at a minimum. If you want to add muscle, you'll have to adjust your other workouts. IronMaiden is right with an exercise prescription of 3 X 8 being a great workout to build muscle bulk and make sure you go to failure. But also remember, to go full range of motion, slowly release the weight all the way down, (get the full effect of the negative), stretch before lifting, proper breathing and focus on the targeted muscle - use proper form.

One last thing, the routine you've been doing for endurance should be changed up. Shock the muscles! Try riding the bike for 20 miles once a week instead of running or get on the eliptical. Our bodies are very efficient. And they learn after awhile how to use efficiency to alleviate working so hard. Your muscles will be talking to you after you change it up simply because they are being used differently. But don't worry....It's a good kind of sore

Best of luck and God Bless
