What's a good pwo meal or shake to have while cutting? Is sugar a good idea?
What's a good pwo meal or shake to have while cutting? Is sugar a good idea?
For a shake:
40-60 grams whey protein, and I usually do 80 grams of a high or mid range GI carbohydrate 50% dextrose 50% maltodextrin is recommended if taking it in shake form.
My favorite PWO is an 8oz Chicken breast and 2 -3 red potatoes. (adding 1 scoop of whey wouldn't hurt either)
PWO is about the only time sugar or dissacharides are acceptable. In moderation. Even a Gatorade and and a whey shake is ok PWO.
cool - thanks
I think it is a horrible idea.
Thanks for chiming in guys. I've been sticking to my brown rice/baked chicken breasts.
I see.
Like I said, I eat chicken and taters, but I would be interested in some of the reasons or experiences you all have had to cut the dextrose/maltodextrine for glycogen replenishment...
I like learning new things LOL
Stickies need to be revamped.
I agree. We reference many people to read them every day on here, but yet we disagree or don't follow many aspects of them. Not saying that they're not excellent references to help new dieters onto the right track. But I think the advise in a sticky should be spot-on.
so what's the verdict? ditch the fast carb pwo, and instead have a chicken breast and brown rice or sweet potato? And this is best for a cutting diet?
Thanks.
Well a sweet potato is a very low GI carb, that's why I eat red potatoes, even regular old potatoes would be better PWO IMHO
Whole wheat bread GI 67
Brown rice GI 55
Red potatoes about GI 56
Brown rice is about the same as red potatoes. Whole wheat bread is a little higher, but PWO I don't see any issues.
Anybody else?
My problem with the stickies is that some of them don't go into BMR and TDEE.
Ok, so now I'm very confused. I thought the whole point of the dextrose/maltodextrin is that they are fast digesting carbs which will help quickly shuttle the protein to the muscles. If we are eating low GI carbs pwo, they will slow digestion. Wouldn't that work against what we're trying to accomplish here (provide the muscles with protein asap)??
The way I do it and I dont care what everyone else does here but in my car after my workout is a shake with 30g of whey and 60g of dextrose. When I get home I eat eggs(2 eggs and 4 egg whites) and 1 cup oatmeal or chicken and 1 cup brown rice. Yes I'm cutting and it doesnt affect my dieting at all. I'm still losing 1-2lbs. a week. I will tell you that if I dont eat a slow carb when I get home the dextrose makes me feel like shit. It make you crash but the slow carb will level you out and get you back to a good energy level.
That's what I figured. I'm actually considering a whey shake..which has about 48 grams of protein, and a sandwich of 2 whole wheat slices of bread and a table spoon of jelly/jam. I think that would balance out the carbs well. Also, I need convenience since I eat in my car.
^^^ You could put oats in a coffee grinder, they become a fine powder and use that instead.
no room for sugar in my diet when cutting. i am so freaking hungry when dietin i dont wanna waste my cals for the day on a cup of sugar when i could go eat some real food.
